I am not required to but I can use it and get something like $.55 per mile.

This except $.53 cents per KM.

Nope. It's discouraged to drive to work even. We have to pay $150/mo for parking, but if we take public transportation, the govt pays for it.

My supervisor doesn't care if I came to work with my car, my bicycle, my feet, or by a para drop.
The only objective is to be there by a certain time...Mode of transportation is irrelevant.

Sortof. There *are* vehicles (usually) available from our motor pool, but using one requires you to perform a 5-10 minute inspection of the vehicle each time you get in it (and log the inspection), so doing it is often not worth it. They do reimburse for mileage.

What do you mean? I have to physically go to work, and to travel to work, I use my car. But, they don't reimburse me for that.

As long as they don't state in their hiring contract that you must drive to work or as long as they don't require you to use your car while at work, then you don't need a car for work.

Using your car to perform you job and driving to work are two completely different things. How you get to your job is entirely on you. I could take public transportation, I could walk, I could rollerskate to work, I could carpool, I could ride a bicycle, I could ride a motorcycle. This is not related at all to doing my job. Being there is critical but how I get there is not.

Yes, they are different things, but both are about requiring an automobile. Some jobs actually require their employees to drive to work (in contract) or they make it extremely difficult for them not to drive to work. For example: there might be a a job that has multiple clients and they make you go to a different one each day and they are spread out over a large region that doesn't have public transit to each place. Another example: You may be required to go from one client to the other in the middle of the day and only be given a small window of time to do it in.

My last job did. Which was also the reason they axed me, since my car wasn't reliable.
But also it was crazy bogus because they hired us, giving the impression that we'd only be using the company vehicle. But we found out they weren't completely honest about that either, amongst many other things.
Not enough steady hours or good enough pay to spend money on fixing my car so it was more reliable, and even when I did have the money the down time for repairs when I could be working wasn't worth it either.
But fuck that sheisty piece of shit company. I'm with a far awesomer company now.
