Are you Radeon owners happy?? Comment here please.....

I was considering buying an ATI Radeon 32MB DDR and I was just wanted to know how you consumers are satisfied with their products. Besided the whole win2k drivers issues, does the Radeon perform well? Do you think it was worth getting one over a GeForce II GTS or Voodoo 5 5500?

I do alot of surfing and use applications rather than play games so I thought I would prefer the 2D quality, but then again I do play some games, mainly UT and NFS5, would I be missing out on the extra FPS that the Geforce generates? I don't think I will be playing obove 1024x768.

Also how would you rate the FSAA on the Radeon, is it comparable to the V5 5500?

Just your thoughts and inputs

Thanks a lot.

BTW - I use both win2k and winME(mainly because my TV tuner doesn't support win2k yet..) I also have linux on my machine but i'm really just playing around with that trying to learn how to use it.

My Radeon DDR 32meg has been great to me. I use Win2k only and it works great on my finicky KA7-100. The only problem I have had is it will not do AGP 4X on a KA7 and has trouble on other Via chipsets getting 4X, but this is mostly due to the Via AGP drivers. I have it stabily overclocked to 201/201 and it has 6ns ram! I replaced my Elsa Gladiac with it and I have been very happy. The 2D is way better than the Nvidia cards, and the colors in games are more vivid and bright. The DVD quality is also top notch. There were some driver issues when I first got it, but there are some new beta drivers that work great. Best of all, it was only $160.

I have an retail Radeon 64 mb vivo, before that i had a 64 meg geforce. I am happy with the trade. The video out and video in is great, DVDs look great. All the games I play run excellent except, for Giants how environmental bump mapping will cause the game to freeze. Other then that it runs great at 1600x1200 with everything else maxed. I can't really say anything about FSAA because I never use it.

I believe the biggest problem people talk about is windows 2000 driver issues. Win98 seems very good but Win2000 support really blows. Buggy 3D drivers with lower performance than the win9x counterparts.

I like the radeon, I am not liking the frequency of driver releases. It has been over 3 months now since ATI released drivers on their site, and that was after touting how the Radeon was the most compliant DX8 part, yet they never even bothered to release DX8 drivers.

I am enjoying my Radeon 64MB card. I run win2k server exclusively, and I find it performs for what I need. Although there are complaints about the win2k drivers, I personally find that they are more than up to the tasks any user may require of the card.

Yes and no. I have an All-in-Wonder Radeon that i'm not using since i only have 1 system now. I got it to watch tv, capture video, and have a good performing card for 3d gaming that would last for awhile. I mainly play Q3 and have been for sometime. I'm sure i'll get tired of it someday down the road, but i don't know when. Vision is very important in Q3 and there are many things u can do to tweak the looks and colors of the game to make enemies stand out more. I use r_picmip 1 which is very detailed textures and i use 32-bit textures for a clearer crosshair. I think the problem i had was actually caused by too good of image quality. The rocket smoke on the radeon was blacker and more detailed, thus being much more difficult to see through it. So i'm using my GeForce DDR again and the smoke is much easier to see through. I'm building another system that i'll put the Radeon in however and i'll use for a long while, just not to play Q3.

I switched over from a Geforce 2 GTS 32mb to a Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO and I am very pleased. No regrets

I have a Radeon 64 ViVo also and i love it. I use Win98SE and Win2K in a dual boot. I personal feel that the drivers are fine the way they are and are only getting better (and ATI has been very good about driver updates so far)

Well I've always gotten mixed reviews, but I think the fact that I use Win98/ME 80% of the time and that image quality is top priority, I should be very happy with the card. Not to mention it's other feature filled abilities.

Unreal and NFS5 play great on my p3v4x+AIWRadeon. NFS5 needs 16,24,32 Z buffer bit depth set in display settings. Very happy with my radeon. 4586 3Dmarks, 91 fps in Quake 3 HQ timedemo1. AGP4X verified with WCPUID. Excellent DVD playback.

The Radeon is the finest card I've owned by a HUGE margin. I've owned the 5500 and all the nVidias other than the Ultra. The difference in picture and "average" framerates is nothing short of astonishing. In all areas it completely decimates any of the nVidia. No more fuzzy 2D either, it's crisp and clear, very comparable to the Matrox I owned. The colour of 3D games is COMPLETELY different than nVidia; no more washed out colours. The board is rock stable and I have had no compatibility issues. There have been 7 driver releases or leaks since the card came outand a MAJOR release is expected before Christmas.

Yes and no.

I have a Radeon 32DDR. My 3D and 2D are much better now than when I used a TNT2-Ultra. I can also testify that 2D and 3D on a Radeon blow away that on a GeForce2 MX. Then again, I do have a Sony CPD-E400 19" monitor, so that helps. My TV Tuner works better than it did with my TNT2, and my system as a whole for some reason runs smoother too.

ATI just has terrible driver developement. Since releasing the Radeon, ATI has only produced two sets of official drivers. Others have leaked, but I don't use them unless they are certified. My Radeon can't do fog right now, something very simple, so I too am anxious for new drivers. Do I think they'll come? No. I think ATI will release the Radeon2 early next year and forget about Radeon1 owners, just as ATI did with their Rage Fury owners.

My advice: wait for NV20 to come out, then grab an Elsa GeForce2 GTS 64DDR or GF2 Pro when the prices drop.

I would certainly recommend the leaked drivers. For for add this to the registry:
"TableFogEnable"="1"
"WFogEnable"="1"
"ZFogEnable"="1"

I just changed over from a Elsa SDR Geforce to a 32MB DDR Radeon using Win2k. Using a 17" Dell/Trinitron monitor at 1024x768 and 32bit color, I can only notice a very slight improvement in 2D image quality. People using 19" and larger monitors and higher resolutions may notice more of a difference, but with lower resolutions, the Geforce image quality is fine in my opinion. As far as DVD support goes, I don't notice much of a difference. So what if the Radeon has hardware DVD support, the CPU load with software decoding is managable anyway. Just my $0.02
