I once spent about a year researching racism for my college debate team, I read a lot of articles and books on it...
I came to the conclusion that it's impossible to be a member of American society without being racist. That was my personal conclusion, make of it what you will.

Not that mine's superior to everyone elses, but more along the lines that some are significantly more worthless, on the whole, than my own.

I'm an American and I'm not racist. It might be because I am a mix of white european, central asian, and north african ancestry. Kinda hard to be against any one race when pretty much you represent the blending of the main three (caucasoid, mongoloid, negroid). So what race would I indentify with? 😛

Well with all of the white teenagers who complain about being the victims of racism on these boards, I'd say racism is alive and well in 2004. You'd be naive to think it's not.

Racist is a pretty strong term to throw around. Sure there's a lot of people in the US that are still the 1950's mentality and wished it still were that way. If you automatically think somebody is "below" you based on skin color then that fits the racist label in my mind.

A lot of people though, like myself, have had limited interaction with other races simply due to demographics and much of our exposure to different races wasn't positive. It makes it easier to beleive, or start, stereotypes. Does a negative opinion of an entire race drawn because of a limited negative exposure to said given race make you racist? I don't know.

I would think that most true hatred based racism is drawn because of fear. Fear and insecurity of your own abilities. Fear that somebody with a skin pigment different of your might just be a better cook/carpenter/engineer/doctor/painter/parent than you.

If you are fearful of a certain race because they tend to commit the most muders/violent crime in a particular area, are you racist? I don't know.

Two different reasons, same label.
