According to a Mens Health magazine survey, 69% of men considered themselves physically fit, the actual number is 19% of American men are physically fit.

I dont know where the figures came from, I heard it Paul Harvey today.

I figured women consider about 6% of American men to be physically fit. :D

Well I'm not in great shape, but hockey has been on for a little under 2 months so I'm getting there.

I consider myself fit. 6'3" (almost 6'4"), 180lbs

I don't excercise as much as I should however. I play tennis during the week and I'm pretty active otherwise.

I would have to say that I am probably not. I spend too much time on the computer...

<< Yeah, i run and lift 4 or 5 days a week. >>

Man, I have to admit, I want to start lifting, but I'm really intimidated at this point. I just don't have the upper body strength :(

Used to be.
I've let myself slip since I quit playing football.

I'm not hugely obese, though I could use to lose about 10-15 pounds, and should excercise more.

Short answer: Nope.

Not as much as I'd like to be....but I figure it's all b/c of college and a supportive boyfriend.

intimidated by what? the other people at the gym?

i know SO many people that think unless they go to the gym and start putting up 300 pounds that people will laugh at them. the truth is that i know a lot of the MONSTROUS dudes at the gym and they have a lot of respect for anyone that comes and is just starting out.

By getting over that "fear", it makes all the differences. As long as you eat regularly and go at least 3 times a week, you'll start seeing differences and start increasing weight pretty quickly after a few weeks. But be prepared to be sore!

i'm at the point now where if i miss more than 2 days i feel weak and can't wait to get back and pump some iron!

HA AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHA HAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. no.

More than 31% of the male population is OBESE, so even if we disclude the obese people by default, out of those remaining of course not all of them are physically fit. That says a lot about how clueless people are about their own health!

BTW what is the definition men's health uses? I don't know if I am "physically fit", but I'm certainly fitter than the average guy my age.

No, I'm not fit, but I'm not fat either. I'm 6'1" and weigh 165. I don't exercise or eat well, actually the best thing I've done for myself recently is quit smoking.

i think it depends if think fit means you look good or you have athletic stamina and ability. There are guys who look good but can't run a half mile without keeling over. I wouldnt consider them physically fit. Then there are guys who have some extra fat but can run 5 minute miles. Overall, i figure for guys, youre fairly fit if you can run 3 miles in under 23 minutes...but of course that depends on a lot of other things..

<< i'm fit...5'8" 140lbs, 3% body fat :) >>

Funny you should mention body fat, I don't register on those electric body fat testers at Brookstone. Most likely a limitation of the equipment, I don't consider myself to be fit.

I second that statement. Right now I'm 5'8" and ~145lbs (of course I've been 5'8" and ~145lbs for the past 7yrs). I used to play racquetball 3x a week. Now...I'd don't think I could go 1 game (3 games to a match) w/o sucking wind hardcore.
