i know my family comes from a line of french nobility. its something like my great (x4 or 5) grandfather avenged the death of his brother, jumonville (sp?) who was killed by george washington's attack on fort duquesne. my great (x5) grandfather attacked for necessity and had GW surrender, signing a document that said he "assassinated" jumonville, not just killing him in a battle. we're pretty sure that guy is part of my family's history because 1) our name isn't very common 2)this guy's grandson, named Francois, who moved to louisiana. there was a francois in my family who lived in louisiana. (i think francois would be my great great grandfather). that's my dad's side. on my mom's, im related to John Carroll, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence

Hey, where did your ansectors come from? Not by chance the PA area? My wife is from Western PA, and we were married near Jumonville, PA, where Washington fought some battles.

[EDIT]: Oops, I see Fort Duquesne now. Pittsburgh.

Well, I was talking parent to parent. And well, 30 generations is 30 parents.
One King got 5 children, one of them kids got 6 more children and so on. And after I while, I was born.
That´s not 2 billion ancectors.

If you count for example your great grandfathers, cousins, mothers, brothers, great grandmothers, cousin ect. Sure, almost everyone is related to royalty.

Wow, not only are you descended from royalty, with only 30 ancestors in 30 generations, your family has discovered the secret of asexual reproduction!

Flip the tree upside down - you have two parents. That's 2. They each have two parents (4 grandparents). They each have 2 parents (8 great-grandparents). They each have 2 parents (16 great-great-grandparents). Keep going for 30 generations, and you have 1,073,741,824 great*28-grandparents. Plus all of the people in-between make up another 1,073,741,822 (not including yourself). So like I said, in 30 generations you could have as many as 2 billion direct ancenstors (parent-child relationships only, no cousins). I said "as many as" because it's very likely that many of those 1+ billion people that are 30 generations above you in the family tree are actually the same people (marrying distant relatives without realizing it). With all of the family trees co-mingling, there are probably very few people who are NOT related to royalty.
