Realist or an Idealist?

For the purposes of removing confusion. The definitions I will be using for this thread are:

Realist: Someone who views the word for what it is, seeing both good and bad aspects of it.

Idealist: Someone who views the world in idealised fashion, seeing the good and focusing on that.

P.S. I'm an idealist.

Edit: based on the answer you give. Finish this sentence: "I believe the world is mostly...."

My answer: "I believe the world is mostly filled with good people"

Realist.

People give the phrase "It is what it is" a lot of shit, but I think it's really because they don't want to accept it. I don't like the phrase either, but I'll use it from time to time because so few people seem to fucking get it. It's not me being stupid. It's them being stupid for making me tell them something that should be obvious to both of us from the start if not for some stubborn refusal to face facts on their part.

I believe the world is mostly habitable.

I'm a realist. The world has good points and bad points, but in general I think it is human nature to treat each other shitty, and destroy the environment around us.

That's true but sometimes, the phrase "it is what it has the potential to be" is also valid.

Realist - I believe the world is mostly "Good", just that the definition of "good" varies based on various political and cultural aspects. And that ultimately 'Life Is A Zero Sum Game', so therefore conflict is inevitable.

I would consider myself a pessimistic realist. I like to be surprised by good people rather than dissappointed by evil people.

Realist. I believe the world is mostly filled with stupid people. See thread tag for proof.

There are no good aspects. The closest anything gets to good is when something bad happens to someone else and you are not affected.

I believe the world is mostly filled with corrupt people. That says it all.

Selfish is more appropriate. Corrupt is a side effect of that. I think the world is mostly filled with selfish people that really don't give a fuck about much of anything that happens outside of their personal life bubble.

So nothing good has ever happened in your life?

If I were an Idealist you wouldn't be posting here anymore.

I don't think you understand what an idealist is, being an idealist doesn't give you magic powers to remove things you don't like from the world.

Idealist for sure.

I probably trust people too much, and think just about everyone is a good person. We're all just trying to live our life and have some fun. Some people are way too serious.

Most of my friends say I'm like a walking rabbits foot. Anytime something good happens to me, the typical response is "Of course that happened to you, OOBradm... Wouldn't happen to anyone else..."

But really, it's my opinion that lots of people close their doors to Lady Luck because they shut off the world protecting themselves because everyone is OUT TO GET YOU!!!. Think Jim Carey in Yes Man.

A realist with the ideal as a goal.

I would like to have Elisha Cuthbert as my wife, but reality tells me it will most likely be the dark haired tall thin girl with blue eyes,... soooo fucking,... HOOOOOOT.

While I will agree with you that Elisha Cuthbert is gorgeous, I don't think you payed attention to the question in the OP.
