No, you need to be able to use both equally well
So which one am I?

I can do everything with my left hand except throw a baseball. Funny enough, I can throw a football with it, but not a baseball.

...anyway, do many of you left handers use your right hand for mousing?
i do . . . the N-52 requires it and it is too weird to switch on a regular KB. ;)

My handwriting is more polished and a bit quicker with my right . . . . it's also too strange to keep switching, so i lean right. ;)

but i can go both ways. ;)

:Q

[and do - it's AWEsomE for painting to switch when one hand is tired].

:D

Just cause you're classified as right handed doesn't mean your left arm just hangs there limp all day you know... right handed people CAN do some things with their left hands.

Can you write just as well with your left hand as you do with your right? Like very similar speed and quality?

That isn't quite fair. Handwriting takes practice. If one regularly chooses a hand for a certain task it will be more proficient at that task than the other one. ;)

I write with my right hand now. In high school, when one hand was tired, i would simply switch to the other one . . . it looked weird to see the slant change - one teacher accused me of having someone else write my paper until i showed her.

I had a prof in college who was ambidextrous. He started the first class by going up to the board and writing an equals sign in the middle of a panel. Then, while talking over his shoulder to the class, he proceeded to write both sides of a fairly involved equation simultaneously. I don't think my brain could multitask that way even if my left hand did work that way.

Pretty much freaked everybody out.

He didn't do that particular trick much, but would always switch hands in the middle of writing something.

right: writing...throwing....more strength...

left: shaving, brushing teeth, flipping people off.........

I suspect it was sort of a parlor trick that he practiced alot to freak people out. (it worked)
But he would switch from one hand to another in mid scribble all the time ... only truly ambidextrous person I've ever met.

Okay, explain to me how being ambidextrous means you can do everything equally well with both hands. What c crock of crap. Nobody can do EVERYTHING EQUALLY WELL with both hands. Practicing with one hand at something makes you better at it. For instance Ill point to myself

I use my left hand for lots of things: EAting, writing, throwing a frisbee, shooting a gun...lots of hand eye coordinated things that dont require strength.

However right handed I throw, play ping pong/tennis, golf, hockey and etc as it is my strong hand.

Now, getting back to not having to do all things equally well...I use to use left handed scissors in my elementary years as like i said I want to use my left naturally especially for hand i coordinated tasks. Well we had those crappy scissors that were somehow designed that a lefty couldnt use right handed scissors as they just wouldnt cut the paper that way. Well, its a pain finding left handed scissors so I started using right handed ones. Now if you put a pair of scissors in my left hand it feels very awkward.

Maybe Im not what you call "ambidextrous" because I cant do them EQUALLY well with both, but I use my left probably just as much as my right hand...what does that make me other than a freak?

I can do some things with my left hand, like shoot pool, and I am also left-footed.

Still, I would say that I am right-handed.

There are too many people voting "Ambidextrous". I seriously doubt all those people can write and do everything equally well with both hands. I think we have people voting for that if they can can do some tasks well with either hand.

I wish I could be such a freak. My left hand is so useless. Best I can do with it is grasp things. Hell, I can't do that so well anymore either, because it seems like my left rotator cuff is going to shlt. I'm debating whether I should bother to have it fixed, since I use my left hand so little!
