Are you into tattoos?

Saw something else in another thread talking about "not getting the whole trend of skinning every program", etc. Which I'm sorta the same way. I've never wanted to personalize, or customize any programs I've used. Is this just another form of self-expression that myself and some other people don't feel the need to display?

Which brings me to tattoos. I have a few friends with tattoos. Most of them are in their early 20's. It seems to me in their case that it's largely about being tough (cuz of the pain involved), or looking cool. Like my one good friend, just got this multi-colored tattoo of a demon-head on the back of his head. Quite large, about 6 inches wide, and 5 inches tall approx. Other than trying to look cool, I can't think of another good explanation for him getting that one. It wasn't something he put a lot of thought into, he just saw it in one of the books at the tattoo place, and decided he'd put it on the back of his head. Help me understand why people get tattoos. Isn't it largely about the attention it would bring to ones self? What do you guys think about tattoos and people that get them? etc.

If so, why? If not, why?

No, they're stupid. Besides, if I got one it could hamper my career advancement.

Yeah, I wouldn't approve of you getting one away.

You know better! :|

Even if it was a strategically placed "Insert Nikamichi here" tat?

i have 2, and i like them
they're not visible unless i'm shirtless (which i am NEVER shirtless in public)

i didn't do it for the fad, i did it for me...something i believe in

i don't like heavy tattoos..like full sleeves and stuff like that
and certain body parts (like the face, neck, forearm, hand should just NOT have tats)

A lot of kids see it as an accessory, nothing more.

Now, if it held a special meaning, like if you were in the militray, prison, or the yakuza, then I'd totally dig it - hell, if I was in any of those three (and I ain't planning on it), then I'd prolly have on on me somewhere . . ..

But as far as personalizing, customizing, beautifying your body with it, I think it's totally crap - first, the skin tone isn't exactly the best canvas for colors, so they all have this ugly hue about them, and a lot of times the artists aren't that good (hell, I could do a better job and I ain't good at all), and people start regretting getting them done leter on in their life . . ..

personally, I think the opposite - if I see a tattoo, it kinda annoys me to see a tattoo in the middle of a body and nothing else - if anything I think full sleeve tats and all-body ones, one big one, not a clump of smaller ones, mind you, are cool, but I couldn't get that - even if I wanted, I teah children, so I thinkit'd be a no-no on that one.

I think they can look pretty good, on the right person. I'm not 'badass' enough for one though; I'd just look stupid, like a wannabe.

My best friend has a tattoo, which he got for his own reasons. He currently has a job with a major company (which we ALL know) with no ill effects. I am thinking about getting one, but am not ready for one yet. I have nothing against tattoos, or people with tattoos. Personally, I like them.

i seem to agree with the majority here, that tats arent really that productive in any way. my brother got several tattoos when he was in college, some skulls, dragons, snakes, gang bracelets, words with "no surrender" etc. etc. now he's completely changed, and its been several years since then. he lost all his piercings, stopped drinking, stopped smoking, and wears long sleeved clothes, especially when at work and when meeting people. he probably regrets it.

I'm not into them. Nor am I, for the most part, interested in accessories that do nothing except present an image to the world. I don't wear jewelry, etc.

I wouldn't want one on myself, I'm picky about artwork and I probably wouldn't like the look of the image 😛 But for the most part they are OK on someone else, more or less.

I used to kind of like them on college girls at FSU...

Now I think they are pretty mainstream and not very attractive.

I suppose they might look tasteful on rare occasion. But 95% of the tattoos I've ever seen weren't original, nor did they signify anything. I find them to usually be a turn-off when I see them on women.

personally, I'm just not into them. It's like smoking. the reason I don't smoke has nothing to do with the health or social risks, I've just never had a desire to start.

on other people... I've seen a few tasteful ones, but large/attention-grabbing tattoos are my hugest turn-off. I have absolutely no attraction to those people who have their arms or backs all inked up, even if they're otherwise really hot.

I am not into tattoos, because I change my mind so often. Hell, I move every 6 months. So I can't commit to a tattoo. 🙂 I guess if I had an ugly skin condition I needed to cover up, I may consider it. 😀
