The fact that you can talk about the football game afterwards with half of your friends and co-workers for one.

Football taps into the tribal aspect of humanity in a way that nothing short of clans in gaming can.

Same shit happens with video games.

I've had conversations with friends over strategies a certain team used against a certain team in League or if it was a good idea to do this certain army comp versus another army comp.

Also marveling at the 300 apm Starcraft players who can manage 5 completely seperate forces on opposite sides of the map simultaneously.

Video games, much like golf, can only be enjoyed by actually playing the game. Watching someone else play a game is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

There are quite a few people who don't play golf but are still interested in watching it be played.

Video games you would need to play though, so I basically agree with what you are saying. I play CS GO, and have no interest in watching LoL, or dota 2 get played.

With that being said, I occasionally do watch pro level CS GO matches. Sometimes to just get ideas of how to play certain spots, or situations, other times just to appreciate the skill.

I watch the LCS occasionally, it's superweek this week so I will probably be watching a good bit, but besides that im not really too interested, and I while I watch the LCS occasionally I haven't played LoL in probably 8 months.

Certainly not for those games as I do not like any of those games. I do occasionally watch Street Fighter tournaments online though since I actually like that game and find it fun to watch two good players go against each other.

KT

Edit: I would never call it e-sports though

It's fun every once in a while. As for people who refuse to call it a sport, the internationally accepted definition of a sport is

SportAccord uses the following criteria, determining that a sport should:[1]
  • have an element of competition
  • be in no way harmful to any living creature
  • not rely on equipment provided by a single supplier (excluding proprietary games such as arena football)
  • not rely on any "luck" element specifically designed into the sport
They also recognise that sport can be primarily physical (such as rugby or athletics), primarily mind (such as chess or go), predominantly motorised (such as Formula 1 or powerboating), primarily co-ordination (such as billiard sports), or primarily animal-supported (such as equestrian sport).[1]

I guess I disagree with the internationally accepted definition of a sport. I don't view playing chess as one, and I don't really view car racing as one. And certainly not video games.

So the overtime coin flip in football actually made it ineligible for being a sport.

Good thing your personal opinion effects literally no one.

Same goes for anybody, so why even bother pointing it out?

The entire point of a forum is to exchange opinions, you could literally go and type this in reply to every post. It's stupid. Me saying it's stupid affects literally no one.

I don't know why I bothered typing this post because it affects literally no one.

I would like to know the BMI of anyone who considers video gaming a sport.

What if it was video game of chess? That counts as a sport because of double negative. Two non-sports equals one true sport.

Put down the mouse and do something with physical activity. You will never regret doing that.

Pasza biceps, won $100,000 with 5 man CS:GO team just a few months ago.

There are a ton of in-shape video gamers. Why generalize?

There are certain health issues that go with sitting for extended periods of time that are there regardless of your BMI, body fat, or other exercise. Sitting for extended periods presents its own independent risk factor.

edit: also Neo, who is considered to be a top 5 greatest of all time in Counterstrike, trains, and maybe competes in MMA, he is on the same CS GO team as paszabiceps.

College League team.

Weighed 240, was benching 290, squatting 470, deadlifting 530.

Why do you ask?

He asks because he's generalizes to make himself feel better about his choice of hobby. In order to feel good he puts other people down. It's sad.

Maybe he's a foreveralone but yet doesn't just play video games and browse /b/ all day?

I better find out his hobby so i can make damn sure to avoid it!

Top earners are making $400K/year off of tournaments alone. That doesn't count TwitchTV and sponsorship.

Joke about it all you want, but those numbers aren't a laughing matter. I wouldn't be surprised if Fatal1ty was close to $1MM last year as it's reported he took in $454K in tournaments.

What tournaments did Fatal1ty play?

i usually only watch matches if i'm actively playing the game. don't play any real games at the moment so I don't watch anything.

I don't think they should call it e-sports either. I think it's just asking for ridicule. Just call it pro-gaming or something. Poker tries to do this too. Just call it gambling lol.

Some streamers can earn big money. Purses for some of the games are pretty big but a lot of them are horrible. Especially when you split that money with your team and sometimes your management company. The prize pool for cs:go was pretty awful until they came out with operation payback and the arms race dlc.

Hmm, maybe that's total, it's a different article than I read earlier which made it sound like that was yearly. I read something about a month ago where top TwitchTV earners were getting $200K but that might have been total as well.

Either way, it's clearly a full time job's worth of earnings.

This is true of watching anyone do anything. If you don't/didn't play football/baseball/basketball/etc they are incredibly boring to watch. The only eSports I'll watch are for games I've played.
