If you own an FX5600 Ultra, please post your experiences and opinions about it, and also please provide the manufacturer and model card you have. I'm considering buying one. If you don't own one, or never have owned one, please don't bother posting, as I am looking for personal experience... not someone to read back benchmark scores and reviews to me.

I purchased a Inno3D Geforce FX 5600 Ultra (350mhz core & 700mhz memory) to replace my MSI Geforce4 Ti4200. The 5600 Ultra offered very good performance with fsaa and anisotropic filtering enabled but only Ti4200 level performance when they are disabled.

To see my results with the above video card compared to a Inno3D Geforce FX 5200 Ultra, MSI Geforce4 Ti4200 and XFX Geforce FX5200 please visit HERE!

I thought the 5600 Ultra was ok but it's far too expensive for the performance it delivers, my Geforce4 Ti4200 was able to easily keep up with it (sometimes even beating it) and ofcourse it's much cheaper.

well I spent a day getting mine to work - and I have an expensive hourly rate, so the cost of my card was offset against the problems I had reinstalling :p ;)

I had some problems installing mine, I used the new catalyst driver from the ati web site, caused all sorts of stability problems so I cleaned that driver from the system and used the one that came in the cd and it's been working fine, installed rad tweak and overclocked it to 501/351 and it's worked like a dream ever since.

Thats one fine rig you've got, plenty of cables in there though.

Back to the topic at hand, Im pretty happy with mine. I have the Leadtek VIVO edition and the performance on Wolfenstien Enemy Territory (the only game im really playing at the moment) is good enough to let me run at 1280x1024 (my lcd's default resolution) with AS filtering and 4x AA without any problems. Overall, it was huge improvment over my GF3. The VIVO capabilites are nice too, since i can get rid of my TV card.

Seems as though the FX5600 Ultra will give me better AA and AF performance... I always run games with those on anyway... or want to... so I think maybe I might get one... now the question is just which one to get... hmmmmmm... My Asus card is fast and overclocks well, but the fan on the heatsink crapped out... my Gainward Ti4200 overclocked fine until I put it in my Asus motherboard, then it would barely run at stock speeds. Decisions decisions =)

the 5600ultra will give you better AF/FSAA performance than the ti4200. PNY 5600ultra's are down around $160 now, IIRC they are all revision 2. Search Techbargains.com

When I first got my FX5600u( it replaced a gainward ge2/pro ) i felt like everything was only slightly better I'm pretty sick over it

Now I would like to add i didnt get the flip chip which is the faster card the the one i have

still real dissapointed plus if i turn on aa and af on full it would suck big time

So for the frist time since the rage 128 pro I ordered a ati 9800 np and will flash it to a pro and kick this fx5600 to the curb like the dog it is

IF you keep a sharp eye on newegg you may be able to get a 5600ultra (or something comprable) on the cheap. Since its a refurb its a little bit of a gamble of course, but every video card and mobo ive bought from them has been fine and fully retial boxed w/ all accessories. I got my 5600u for $139 this way (same card retails at newegg for closer to $200).

I got a "good deal" on a Leadtek 5600 ultra for $130. I sold my 9500 because (while it was decently fast) the textures would always freak out in the 1 game I play the most - Bf1942 (and Desert Combat).

The 5600 ultra is not the flip chip design and I could only get a stable OC at 375 x 750. It plays great in Q3 (urban terror), Tron 2.0 is fine, bf1942 (secret weapons) is 'ok' - gets a little jumpy at times... desert combat is totally unplayable it's so slow. But it sure does look good (as a slideshow).

To get it playable in desert combat I have to turn AA off completely, and dump down to 800x600 (on an athlon 2400 with a gig of ram). Smooth at last... but damn it's ugly.

Maybe it's just desert combat that hates me....

So what's the answer? Don't play bf1942 and you'll probably be happy with the 5600 ultra... until Doom 3 comes out anyway.

I bought the PNY 5600ultra from Fry's about a month ago for 170 (after rebates).
Reason for upgrading was to get better fps on Star Wars Galaxies than my 64mb mx-400.
To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Graphics performance was almost identical between the two cards. I couldn't turn up the resolution or detail settings without getting unplayable frame rates.
I returned the card and got an ATI 9800 non-pro from bestbuy for 250. Well worth the extra 80 bucks because i now play SWG at 1600x1200 with all the details cranked up to max and still get good fps.

I was one of the first people to recieve an engineering sample of the flipchip 5600U and it was so happened to be manufactured by PNY. The card did not have VIVO capabilities, but it was noticably faster than my Ti4400. I wouldn't go into numbers but i noticed the LOW FPS extreme was much higher. If the Ti4400 had a minimal fps of 30 while its average fps was 60, i would say the 5600U had a minimal of 50 and average of 60. (this happens to be unreal2l3 at 12x10) Much smoother gameplay! So if you want an affordable (finally) vid card at +Ti4600 speeds and ViVo capabilities, the 5600U is a very solid choice.
