If you're talking about Facebook, Twitter and all that stuff, you don't have to use those things (I don't). The "old Internet", meaning forums like this one, are still here - if perhaps smaller in nature.

Individual websites are all but gone though. In 1998 I remember the A/C in my Ford Taurus was going wonky and I found a web site a guy had made where he complete dissembled the entire AC system step by step with color photos and replace it from end to end. It was awesome. In general, people don't make webpages like that anymore.

10 years ago I kept thinking how incredible websites will be. how super fast all the servers would be, how intuitive the design would be, how all the bugs would be ironed out.

....and then we have today. Seems there are more bugs than ever. Half the sites I'm going 'wth' is up with this design and how all this is implemented, it's horrible and makes no sense! It could be a thousand times better! We get slowdowns and throttling all the time. NSA looking at all our stuff, websites are broken into more than ever by everyone. More fraud than ever. More trolls. The majority of people are on super shallow sites like facebook, so everyone goes there. Advertising has gotten insane. Yeah I use adblock but when it shows dozens of blocks on well known websites that's ridiculous. I couldn't imagine using that page and seeing all those ads. Google shows to many biased search results or ads. Seems Google was way better at search before. The entire internet is massively polarized and constantly fighting, on any topic it comes up. Ebay has gotten ridiculous on fees. Everything is automated, they want you to read a huge manual before being able to click a link that will let you get in contact with customer service. DRM up the yang, which can cause problems if you bought something legit. Fake reviews up the yang. Way to much "PC" crap.

And why does webcamming still suck for FPS half the time??

I'm sure I could keep going if I wanted.

Internet today is crap. Back in mid 90's, to be on the internet was free. One could not help but be marveled at the seemingly limitless untapped potential. It was like exploring the seas before the world had been mapped out, you never knew what was behind the next corner. Those you came across were nearly all intelligent and decent too. Clearly that went downhill as the internet became the McDonald's of information.

Yea, I really miss dial-up and AOL disconnecting me at will during peak usage. o_O What I don't like about today's internet is that it has become a haven for criminal activity and I really don't feel safe buying stuff anymore, always wondering if the site I'm shopping from has been hacked by some Russian asshole.

the internet amplifies everything, the good along with the bad. since people produce and consume mostly garbage in their daily lives (you and I included, though perhaps less than most), that's the biggest thing on the internet. there's the good parts though, and those make it all worthwhile.

No. The promise of the internet as a peer to peer network is all but dead. The telcos, ISPs, and big media couldn't make enough money on that model so they gutted it. They even equated the term "peer to peer" to piracy.

You can find everything on the Internet. If you haven't found what you're looking for you haven't tried hard enough.

The Internet is a great resource....ISP's can blow me though. Hope cities wake up and tell the ISP's to fuck off by building their own citywide networks (like many already are).

I just don't like the fact no one on the "Internet" can CAPITALIZE THE WORD INTERNET!

But besides that I wish search capability was improved somehow. Sometimes I can search and search and I can't find what I'm looking for. Perhaps I need to use Google tools better. I had an addon for Firefox called Advanced Dork LOL but I never really used it. It allowed you to right click words in web pages and do searches with certain parameters, etc.

I have climbed highest mountain
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you

I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven't found
what I'm searching for
But I still haven't found
what I'm searching for...

I voted no, but that's just because I'm an "old timer" (32 lol).

Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. are good and bad, but they are clearly the future. I dislike Facebook because it lacks the anonymity of it's contemporaries.

Saying the internet is bad because it's flooded with bullshit, isn't really a valid argument. The net had plenty of useless, shit sites back in 1999.

Remember porn sites back then? lololololololol
