Funny I grew up playing 30-40 hours a week playing games throughout HS and even college. (Diablo, Starcraft, CS, etc)

I've always thought my life would be miserable by being enslaved by vid games...

As a 24 yr old, I'm having the best time of my life.... constantly out with friends, trying new things (just got back from Europe, did skydiving, white water rafting this year), creating memories here and there.

I always think to myself... If I were to spend $500 or xxx on games/PCs/consoles, think of all the traveling I can do with it instead...

I simply don't care for upgrading PCs anymore. I have a XP1700+ and it's perfectly fine as I've completely quit games altogether....

Anyone in same boat as me? I'm so happy with myself nowadays..

I just don't think video games are fun anymore. They're too "real" with too many challenges, and the challenges aren't even fun. It's not challenging so much as redundant and boring as hell. I'm sick and tired of first person shooters and simulators. I miss games like Carmageddon 2, or at least zany first person shooters like Duke Nukem with strippers and pig-cops.

Maybe I just need more console games.

often times, compulsive video gaming comes from wanting to escape some problems. when these problems are fixed, the amount of gaming diminishes.

at least this was true for me.

I agree but with completely different reasons- they're not fun anymore because they're so transparent now. (maybe not 'now' but I got older) Everything just seems fomulaic- same old AI scripting, same level-up experience for new spells when your enemies get just as strong, etc....

hmmm, I don't game as often as I used to, although any new games that come out I will purchase and play all the way through at least once before forgetting about them.

Come to think of it I don't even like doing repairs on my own PC's....so they tend to sit around in pieces for weeks on end before the missus complains and "motivates" me to do something with them

I will have even less time now to use them.

I pretty much agree.
I am certainly not growing out of computers. I need them now more than ever.
But I dont waste nearly as much time upgrading and customizing as I used to.
There was a day when I knew what was in every single directory on my hard drive and was familiar with each process that was running and nowadays I just keep the viruses and spyware off and try to defrag once in a while.
I also dont read every single article on Anandtech anymore. I just saw the piece on the 8000 series GeForce and I didnt even get excited.

Definitely. When I started focusing on my career my gaming levels were shot. My friends wonder why I don't play as much as I used to, but they realize that I have a full-time job and finishing up school.

Yet, I am graduating college this semester so my future is ridden with games. I can't wait until I get my Wii next weekend. :)

I'm the same way. I used to game 3-4hrs a day, I HAD to upgrade my PC every 2 months, etc. Now, if I get a game, I'll play it a couple of hours a week for a few months and that's plenty.

I've found that I have SO MUCH more freetime if I don't play online games. If you like gaming, you'll find that online gaming is 50% wasting time waiting for other people to get their act together and 50% playing. You also have to schedule your playing around other people's schedules- it can take over your life really easily.

I'm pretty proud of the level of guitar playing I've gotten to since kicking the PC habit. However, I'm also angry at myself because I feel like I wasted 5 years of my life on that crap, so I could be a LOT better right now :|

kind of the opposite here. right now i feel like my life is ****** and don't feel like doing anything. the only thing i seem to get any enjoyment out of now is reading books.

I wouldn't say I'm growing out of computers, but I hardly ever play games on them any more. I use my computer for web browsing, listening to music, and instant messaging. Can't remember the last time I gamed all night, because instead I'm out doing something with my friends. Life IS good. :)

I recently banned myself from CS and I realized how much more time I have (of course, now I spend it all on Maple Story... but it's the thought that counts!)

I also found out that banning myself from ATOT allowed me to do a lot of things, but I do get a lot out of being at ATOT.
