I'm watching the opening ceremonies right now (I'm on the west coast)...
I can't wait to see the Men's Gymnastics team 😉
 
I'll be watching most of the events (I'm on vacation) its hella-fun 🙂 🙂 🙂 Can't wait for the track & field events and basketball (although, I'm watching to see who comes in second 😉 )

I saw the womens triathlon earlier and our Canadian gold metal hopeful was in an accident in the bike section which took her out of the race 🙁 To bad becuase she was only 1.5 mins back of the leaders & the running was her best event (before the race she said that if she was 3 mins back she would be in the running for a medal).

i'm going to watch the track & field b/c i have to learn to be the best long jumper in the world....hhaha...almost there (22 ft. 4 inch) 😀
 
Yep...I'm definitely going to watch it...

Although it's commercialized and NBC makes it very dramatic, the Olympics are still a great way to bring the whole world together and put down whatever conflicts for at least 2 weeks or so. 🙂

i would be watching it right now, but they've got damn college football on instead. damnit, college football is on 5 stations all day saturday ever weekend in the fall. olympics come once every four years. put on the damn olympics.
 
yeah, when i was watching the opening ceremonies on nbc last night, they actually placed a commercial break, just as the 300th participant of team usa came marching in... where did the rest of the 600+ athletes go?!

 
I probably won't get to watch too much, thanks to my work schedule, but I've always loved the Olympics. I made it to Atlanta in '96 with my family, and was lucky enough to witness Michael Johnson set a new world record in the 800. That same night is when Dan O'Brien won the gold in the Decathalon.

The Olympics are great, but you really have to be there for the experience. Trust me, and go (even if you don't have tickets to any events) next time they're near you. I'll be hitchhiking if I have to to get to Salt Lake City in 2002.
 
There are some events I would be willing to watch but NBC doesn't make it easy. Being on the East coast a lot of it is shown too late for me. I could tape it but am too lazy.
 
i wish i was here in la during the '84 olympics... then again, if i was here @ that time, i'd be too young to enjoy and remember it...
 
The only Olympics I've been to were the 76' Montreal Summer games. The only thing I remember is that we could not get any tickets to any of the sporting venues. I was not terribly disappointed, heck I was 7 and probably couldn't give a flying monkeys crap 😉 We did line the streets for the Marathon though, oh joy 🙂

Yeah, I love the Olympics and I am watching them right now as I type (gotta love those TV tuner cards). Note: Michael Johnson doesn't run the 800m -- maybe you meant the 200m. That one was sizzling!
 
Just watched the US women swimmers win the gold in the relay. Excellent!

First US gold in this Olympics was Nancy Johnson on the shooting team.
 
the women's triathlon has ended about 10 mins ago (at least on tv)... is it just me, or was the narrator/announcer too dramatic? i had to mute my tv, but for some areas because it was too much!
 
Handle, my bad. I think it might have been the 400, then. I forget the exact distance, but I remember that he was not expected to perform very well because he had already run the 200. He was expected to be tired for the 400 (which was not his main even anyway), but ended up setting a new world record which still stands.
 
Reitz, sorry, I'm not trying to belabor the point, but Michael Johnson did not set a world record in the 400m at Atlanta. I believe the record at that time belonged to Harry Reynolds. However, at Seville in 1999, Johnson did set the 400m world record.
