Are you going to play The Secret world?

No. Tried one of the beta weekends. The combat system sucked. The story line sucked (it did not immerse or otherwise immediately grab my attention or imagination). The graphics sucked (the engine seemed exceedingly dated). The environment sucked. The setting sucked.

So in a nutshell, it definitely isn't the game for me.

I'll wait till it's F2P before reassessing my opinion, which should be in a few weeks given Funcom's track record.

So after basically dogging the game (including this thread), I was sitting around bored and decided to buy this game based on positive feedback from the fans.

The first 4-5 hours I though I made another MMO mistake. Turns out I like the game after all. There are problems but I've already been enjoying it than my last MMO purchase (TERA). We'll see how it goes once Torchlight 2/Guild Wars 2 come out.

I preordered it a long time ago.. played the early release.. and yes it's still buggy and clunky.. and confusing..

the game has some promise I guess.. but overall it's just too clunky and uninspired.

I havent bought my retail copy yet and still have my early access access somehow.

I have yet to put my key in for retail either, suprised its still going.

No. I will NOT play Secret World, because its just gonna be another mediocre game and because MMOs are a plague that needs to go away. They are preventing more great single player games from coming out, and draining honest people's money every month.

I think to day of playing a game for 5 years is over.

So if you play the game for 5 months and have fun who cares. Is $15 bucks a month really a terrible investment to play and have fun with something?

I would rather try a new MMO and play it for a few months and it suck, then be bored and pay for 2 or 3 console games a month.

I hate Super hero games, i am sure i can't be the only one out there.

Same, I also cannot stand super hero movies.

Especially Superman. Yes lets make a super hero that is literally almost unbeatable.

However the secret world I watched a bit on and tried and didn't care for it. Not my cup of tea.

I just heard of this game yesterday and haven't had a lot of time to read about it or check it out. The only MMO's I've played before were GW & Rift. GW was awesome and looking forward to GW2, Rift I got bored of very quickly and cancelled my sub. Now, I'm hesitant to try out a new MMO.

Am considering it, following the concept for a couple of years now, but I think I will wait a month or so. Hopefully the price will drop after the initial furver.
I was keen to try the new combat system, and was hoping for a more adult visual effect.
Funcom was a big let down with AoC, but hopefully they learned something.

I saw some footage of it, I hadn't heard of it until... about two days ago. It seems decent but I won't buy it. I'll wait until it becomes free-to-play, which appears to be some sort of a trend for most MMORPGs since a few years unless you're called World of WarCraft. How many subscription-based MMOs "failed" and went F2P? I can't count them anymore. So, I'll wait, I'm sure The Secret World will follow suit.

At least, when it's F2P, you can give it a try and can remain indifferent to the disappointment if there's one, since of course there's no loss of money involved.

That's not the point.
The game has established lore, recognizable world and characters. Great visual customization. Unique-ish combination of hack-and-slash mechanics and skill-system. Different movement modes. PS3 support. And stuff that spoils over-all impression.
Even with all bad stuff it should've been hugely successful.
On the other hand TSW has nice setting and lightly modified GW1 class and skill system(with poor and simplistic combat) as good points. And unjustifiably high system requirements(I mean RAM).
That's why I said that unless some miracle happens I don't see it as successful.
Especially Superman. Yes lets make a super hero that is literally almost unbeatable.
Gadget power set with acrobatics movement mode and almost any weapon are for you. And as a villain you fight Superman at level 15 I think(with support of NPC probably).

At first i did not like the graphics... warming up to them... trying to give it a chance.

Buddy keys are available to subscribers and looks land it you only get 24 hrs to try the game once you log in (which isn't long enough IMO).

I remember the first PR images and awesome trailers and was very much interested. Then I found out it was to be an MMO and was heartbroken. Especially after seeing real gameplay, I dearly wish this would've been a single player experience with the mood of the early images and trailers. I love the locations and monsters but it seems it could have been much richer were the devs focusing their power into making it a great single player adventure. I really wanted to experience the worlds but not with this type gameplay.

The type of game that has come out seems like a much diluted version of that great atmosphere invoked by the early teasers.

I am definitely going to play this as soon it becomes f2p..cant imagine spending money each month to beta test the game for them!!!

I didn't expect much from this game. I researched it a little and kinda like the idea of a modern day setting and the ability wheel. On launch day I was grinding away on my 4th 85 on WoW and bored as hell.

So I decided to drop $50 and try TSW...I can say I was unsure for about the first 10hrs. But then it all started to click and I love this game. Once you get about half way through the first area (its is huge btw) you start to see the beauty of the abilty wheel and its possibilities. The writing and the feel of the world is amazing.

And already the have big plans with this http://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?t=42532 post by Senior Producer & Creative Director on the official forums. And the launch of http://chronicle.thesecretworld.com/character/Crowdog TSW Chronicle.

I couldn't be happier with a game I didn't really have any expectations from. It's a game that people seem to either love or hate. But if given a chance I think people will love it for the most part!

This is turning out to be quite the hidden gem. I was sucked in by reading the guides and reviews and a few of my former RIFT guildmates are totally hooked. I too was suspicious because of my bad experience with Age of Conan.

IMHO, it gets off to a rough start. The character creation is pretty bad when it comes to faces. Hell most the women look exactly the same and everyone is the same size. Then once you get past that and do the initial running around and Tokyo dream sequence I still was kind of bored. But then once you get to Kingsmouth this game really shines. I mean fricken shines! The quests are the most fun I've had in an MMO and I've been playing them since EQ1. The atmosphere is amazing and the AP/SP system rocks! I've never had so much fun just reading about the various builds.

Just choosing my first weapon path was agonizing. I finally ended up going Blades/AR and it's a riot. The synergy is quite amazing with that combo. Blade Torrent builds both weapon resources on all targets. So I do 3-4 of those then Fire At Will then Balanced Blade, switch targets and Fire at Will again(since AR resources are still on other targets from Blade Torrent) and if shit isn't dead just repeat. With the Immortal Spirit and Lick Your Wounds passives I have some decent continuous heals on me and if I need more health for tougher fights I specced into Anima Shot + Anima Boost. Can't wait to get more AP/SP and experiment with the various healing and tanking builds.

We'll see what end game is like. Rift Hammerknell was some of the best I've seen and I recently resubscribed to get back in there, finish Akilyos and progress into ID. If TSW can pull off some good end game content like Rift they will have a huge winner on their hands.

this.. early post avout it being no good, but second try he felt it was worth a look.

to many players go in thinking they will be playing a game that hooked them as much as thier "first" (mine was MUDS, old school, but EQ if you want the 3D game).. nothing has ever come close to that first MMORPG feeling, nothing will.. thats how FIRST's work.. The next problem is us MMORPG burn outs are..well burnt out.. we have had a GLUT of games , paid and F2P in the last 5 years..

here is the real problom i see, almost all these game start out fun in some way, fast leveling, new powers, mounts, huge new city, etc.. then after those first 10-20 hours its all the same. its just the way it is, you cant cahnge that we have all seen this a million times before.

My take on Secret world, I liked it in Beta, gotta say CLUNKY interface is correct, and almost inexcusible today. But the modern setting, and quests that link and tell small stories worked for me.. no its not new in any way, but i liked it. THAT is its only pull for me. I hated the cookie cutter weapons stuff.. sward heavy swing=hammer heavy swing=shotgun both barrels.. same attack/dmg, different name

I was close.. oh so close to buying it.. but SWNOTOR, and Tera.. both talked up like the next comming are .. well awfull after the first 20-30 levels.. i kinda expcet the same from SW.

BUT! i do think AOC is a great game now ( it sucked after tort at launch)... age has made it 100% better.
