Are you embarassed by the noise your computer makes?

For example:

You have company and you want to show someone something or look up something on the net for them. They ask a question like:

Is that noise from your computer?
Is it raining outside?
Is your heat running?
Is the toilet making all that noise?
Etc...

I've had it happen once or twice for sure. I've even been on the phone near a bank of roaring servers only to have the person on the other end think I was riding in my car! :Q

Cheers!

My current system (Dual TBird 1200's) is not nearly as noisy as previous systems.

I need to replace my Enermax 451 with a 465 (whisper version), but other than that it's pretty quiet.

Reasons:

1) 16.1 db fans on the TBirds
2) 120 mm Panaflo down in front
3) no fan on my video card (Matrox G450)
4) Quiet HD (Seagate Barracuda IV)

Once I get a quieter power supply it should be pretty quiet. And damn fast to boot.

the only noise that my computer makes is music and games....
read here for more info on that...

edit.. ahhh.. after reading the post again i realized you meant the noise the actualy computer makes, not windows... well.. mines not really that loud at all, never really had anybody ask any questions about it.. unless the case is off, then it can be pretty noisy...

My personal workstation was *very* quiet (<22 dBA TOTAL) until I decided to stack a few 15,000 RPM hard drives in there! There is no way to quiet those beasts down. They will most certainly overheat if they don't get good airflow (20CFM per drive from the ambient room) too. At least the box doesn't whine like a kangaroo getting neutered with a broken beer bottle. (Delta owners???) :)

Cheers!

I have the 431 watt whisper version and it's not particularly quiet. I wouldn't bother changing it if I were you.

people always mention how my computer is pretty loud... i usually have the case open though, becuase i'm always taking things in and out of it. And with 5 fans going on inside of it, it puts out a lot of noise.. keeps cool though.. and its fast. Never really bothers me though.. The loudness just means its more powerful.

These days the fan in my power supply seems to be dying. They make a low groaning noise for about one or two minutes when cold booted and then quiet out. Hopefully, the computer will be already on when someone comes over...:)

My computer make a hell of a lot of noise. I can even hear it downstairs. I guess it's mainly to do with my 7200 rpm Delta fan on my cpu, as well as the 4 case fans :)

Thing is, I've got used to it now, so I have no problem getting to sleep while my pc is on :D

Not any more embarassing than the ovepowering, aggressive idle hums coming from a rigged up Skyline...

mine is really annoying so next time when I reformat my windows, I'm gonna take off the fans to reduce the noise...

Nope. Not in the least.
