Are you doomed to be a single geek for the rest of your life?

As one of the few engineering females around, I do have to offer my sympathies to the male engineers. Not only do you have to fight off social awkwardness and other nerd tendencies but the male to female ratio in your classes as well as jobs offer no better chances of finding your female geek counterpart. Just wondering but how old are most of you guys and how long have you gone without a date/gf/kiss? Are there some 21+ out there who have never even been kissed? (I know you exist!!!!)

Do you feel that you will go through your life without finding anyone ever? How does that make you feel? And althought I agree that you don't need a significant other to live a happy and successful life...it sure does help.

Anyways, just wondering because I work at a predominately male company and I'm just wondering how some of these guys meet any girls or if they ever get a chance to. That kinda sucks...

In one of my data structures classes a few years ago, there were 30 students. 2 of them were girls. They were both ugly. And they were both already taken. heh.

I'm probably doomed. I have an overwhelming fear of rejection. I'd also probably screw up the relationship anyway.

Ignorance is bliss!

30 yo professional geek.

Met my sweetie on the internet... I've even come close to using the "L" word with her. She's beautiful, and delicious, and oh so squeezable!

And before the requests start coming.... point me to a hosting site and I'll see what I can do.

I consider myself a geek, but all of my co-workers and friends don't.

I don't have a girlfriend, but I'm not a geek - I'm just really anti-social. I'm only 18 so I still have some hope though.

not worried. I'm actually more worried that I'll be forced to choose in the near future.

While not an engineer, I AM a geek, just not professionally. I'm 23 and haven't had a girlfriend in 3 almost 4 years, but by choice as I got burned by my last girlfriend. I'm sure I'll start dating again at some point, but it's gonna take more time.

being a bachelor is nice anyway

It's only nice when you have women that you don't have to commit to.
Being a bachelor alone is just plain depressing. :)

I *use to* be like that, untill I was about 17. Now I'm married to a fellow geek (female geek, don't get any ideas ;)).

I used to be a geek by profession, but I don't work with computers anymore. I'm probably still a geek, but I don't think of myself as one.

I've been married and now that I'm single again, I know I can find happiness alone. As of this moment, I could care less if I met someone. I like women and all, don't get me wrong. For me, I am happier alone than I was married and I have no stress. Yes, my ex wasn't a very good wife, but the things she did aren't too untypical of many women. So unless I meet some stellar woman, which will be hard because I'm not looking, I'll be single for a long time or maybe even forever.

almost 28.
don't have a gf. haven't had one in almost 1 year i guess.
but i've had 3 girls that i've slept with on and off since then, so no big deal. a few more that just got to the bed stage but never got to actually fvck. :)
i don't worry about it too much. it's not hard to find women.

See my signature line.

I knew from the beginning that between my friends in comp. sci. and engineering it was going to be a rough ride. Among the ten of us (seven graduated with a final average above 95%) only myself and two others have held down steady girlfriends or even had two dates in a row with the same girl. The rest are 20-turning-21 year old virgins who have never been kissed before.

It's an ugly situation when you realize there's no breaking out of that box coming soon. How do you meet girls when you don't go to clubs because you don't want to go alone and all of your friends are geeks too? There's a serious possibility that after university, you'll find work and keep mostly to yourself, never meeting anyone. It's going to be sort of interesting to watch. :p

P.S. If you're ever in the Greater Toronto Area, weezer... ;)
