lol still 0 Yes and now 60 no.

I figured by now someone would say at least accidentally vote yes but I guess not :awe:

We are very careful with our votes when money is concerned.

I tried to donate the last 15 cents in my paypal account, but it said it was a dollar minimum so now I won't be making a donation ever. I'm that petty.

the internet is free, i guess wikipedia didn't get the memo

i donated $10. Considering how much I use it, they deserve alot more than that from me. Figure i'll stop being cheap and entitled every once in awhile.

i actually just donated today, before coming to ATOT for my daily dose of nonsense. It's my first time donating. I use that site so much, it's such a great tool/resource. It doesn't fly for academic use most of the time, but it is invaluable for day to day information. It's one of the few sites i go to pretty much every day for one thing or another.

I would if I had the money. Wikipedia's great, and I use it all the time. It may not be the best for real research, but it serves an important need for finding random information, especially regarding modern pop culture.

It's an excellent starting point for real research.

I used it all the time for research papers. I never citied Wiki, because wiki wasn't the source - it was the compilation of multiple sources that made research so easy. Go to wiki, read some stuff, go to the linked citations, and get a more thorough discussion on the subject matter.

Also, I've found some topics are extremely in-depth and if not doing a research article, is a great one-stop place. Just recently, diving into digestion and the science of energy transfer between food and physiological structures - it hits all the points I've ever researched in the real way (including courses), and also proceeded to go way over my head.

I've taught myself many things simply by using wikipedia - either as a one-stop, or as a starting point. I love learning, and all aspects of our physiology I try to make a point to never stop learning about... as well as ecological history / the anthropological perspective. Things that aren't necessarily helpful in day-to-day life, but can make you a better person (and can, in fact, help make you healthier through more sound nutrition).

I just hate being forced to learn. I'll learn what I want (any topic is fair game if I'm interested at some point), and will do it when I want. I'd actually say I've learned more that way than through structured courses - I'm more apt to remember things when I'm really interested in that particular piece of knowledge I'm teaching myself.

Props to you guys for donating.

4 out of 103 is pretty abysmal.

Using ATOT as a crude approximation and the figures given in the "personal appeal" on Wiki, if 400 million people use it every month and 4% of them donate ($1) in the month the appeal is launched, that's 16 million for the year. I don't know if that's enough...

go read a little bit jimmy wales and then see if you agree with that

I've happened upon it maybe 5 times this year. I don't think I use it enough to donate. I'd rather donate to Heatware.

Nope, I donate to actual charities. I rarely use Wikipedia and would not care if it disappeared form the face of this virtual Earth.
