I had a huge argument with my dad this morning and I feel bad about it. Stuff were exchanged that shouldn't have been and I just feel bad about it. Once in awhile, we argue and stuff.

Are you guys close with your parents? I'm not that close with my dad.

dude, i WISH i could have an argument with my Dad. for one thing it wouldn't be an argument! i wish i could talk to him, hug him, tell him i love him. he died a year and a half ago.
that puts it all into perspective.

I'm really close with my parents. Unless they infringe on my orange juice's protective bubble. Then I get pissy.

I am really close to my mother, and everything is just business with my father. We dont have a close relationship. If it's not about grades, money, or career goals, it's not discussed.

I don't get along with my parents at all. I don't know them, I don't spend time with them, nor do I want to. Think that when I leave home I'm gone for good. Couldn't care any less to talk to them even around holidays. I know that sounds cold--but just the BS they put me through I can't stand them for it anymore.

For instance, they knew I loved my perfect 4.0 GPA that I kept every semester until this past one (my final semester) and was trying hard to get into another school. I just so happened to have a major project to due and had like 16 hours to do it. They leave me with baby sibblings to take care of all day. Couldn't really get away from the crying or crap for more than 20 minutes. Ended up I got an incomplete in the class (never finished it on time) my cumulative (final) GPA went to shite and now I highly doubt I can get into the university I want to. When they asked why I have to go back school next semester, I told them I failed a class. They just kind of had this dumb fscking look like "duh why? what went wrong? better luck next time!" they think it is all a game and it is a joke to them and it drives me insane.

How old are you all and what happened to cause this apathy to your parents? Please help me understand, I am very close to both my parents and would have a hard time saying any of the things that some of these people are saying about their parents.

Pretty close, we have a good relationship. I drive race cars as a hobby, and my dad is my crew chief, best I could ever hope for. That means we spend a lot of time together, so of course there are arguments. But, we still have a great relationship.

pretty close with my mom...but i hardly ever talk to my dad. But that's just how he is..he's not very good at small talk...or any talk, actually.

so i guess my mom makes up for dad's lack of conversation skills...

I just got a call a few hours ago. My father had a heart attack and died. You cold hearts who say you wouldn't care might want to rethink your statements.

I'm close to mom. I was 12 when they were divorced. My dad kidnapped my younger bro and sis. They were gone for over a year, it nearly killed mom. I was almost 14 when we found them. I made the discovery, it was wierd, saw dad get arrested over it.

So, now it comes out that he molested my older sister and aunt and there's suspicion that he messed with the little one when she was 4.

Close? Nope. Not a word in 15 years.

I do struggle with the biblical commandment that says" honor they father and mother so that your days may be long upon the earth."

How do I honor this guy? It's a struggle because I miss so many of the things that other guys learned from their dads.

Sorry to hear that (really).

But some of us really have legitimate reasons for the space between us and our parents--each case is different.

There is so much stuff you can't understand about each member and their reasoning for it. I'd beg to say that a few people on AT have probably been abused by their parents even. I think there are truly legitimate means for disliking, even hating them.
