I have 5 first cousins. Two of them I haven't seen or talked to in 25-28 years. One of them I see about once a year (Lives in a suburb about 15 miles from me) and the last two I haven seen for about 10-12 years. Of course I haven't seen one of my sisters in over 4 years.

Close knit family, huh?

I humbly apologize to those Kentuckians whom I offended by not seeing they were the first to reference incest in this thread. :)

well Im not that close with any members of my family other than my Mother/Father.

My 3 year old second cousin though is a different story. He is like a little brother to me. He usually comes over 3 times a week and actually likes to play XBox. (he plays SSX Tricky... He can't do any "tricks" but he can actually win races :D )

I come from a huge Greek family, and we are really tight knit. My cousins (I have 26 of them) are almost like brothers and sisters to me. But I have met people who barely even know their cousins.

I am curious to hear from you folks, how close are you to your cousins? Are you really good friends with them, or something more, or a lot less? I don't really want to create a poll, but I would like to know other peoples experiences of the cousin relationship.

Dude, only 26? That's tiny man.
Ya, it is sort of tiny, for a Greek family, that's true! But some of em are really really fat cousins, so the total mass of cousinage is rather sizable.

i have a TON of cousins (my mom was one of 17 children). so i don't even know some of them. some i have never met, some i wouldn't know their name if it popped up on the tv screen. i am on a casual basis with a couple of them, but that is it.

Heh, 26 is more than enough. I come from a pretty big family too but at this point I'm not really close to my cousins. First of all most of my family still lives overseas and the others I haven't seen them in ages because we moved away from them years ago (I'm talking my mom n' dad's brothers and sisters). Back when we still lived in michigan I was pretty tight with my cousins, but even if we still lived there we would have drifted apart anyway. There were 3 cousins especially that I was close with but once they hit high school they changed. All they wanted to do is go to parties, go drinking, and eventually smoke the wacky tabacky.

One day I actually "went out" with them too see what I was missing and the evening consisted of: Driving around town talking on the cell phone trying to find out where the "action" is, rolling down the windows in the dead of winter and turning on the heat full blast just so we could hang out the window and look cool (yippee), go meet with everyone at the Taco Bell and hang out in the parking lot to try and figure out where to go, get chased off by the manager, and eventually end up going back to someone's house so that they could do some drinking and partying. After we got chased off by the manager I just told my cousin to take me home because I had enough fun for the night.

I can say without a doubt that even if I still lived in michigan I wouldn't be close to them. While they may have settled down a little bit they're still basically the same. All they want to do is go to the bar and drink themselves stupid and smoke their weed. Two of them have even done jail time because they got busted on possession. I am completely different from them so at this point we have nothing in common. I haven't seen them in at least a year and if another year goes by without us meeting I won't really care.

I'm basically close to my brothers, sisters, and a select few aunts, uncles and cousins. The rest of my family I really don't give a flying rip about.
