Are you buying a new HDTV this Christmas?

this is a good example of why polls are flawed. This is a tech site. A much higher percentage of people on here probably all ready have HD TVs. This is the reason I'm not planning on getting one.

Nope, I replaced most of my TVs earlier this year. 67" LED DLP for the HT, 46" LCDs for the spare bedrooms and office, and a 52" LCD for the master.

I was very impressed with Samsung this year and decided to upgrade. I found some great deals on 46" 720p Sharps for the spare bedrooms.

So no TVs for xmas. Thinking about a new Denon AV receiver for the HT, though... but that will probably wait until next spring/summer.

i will NOT be getting a HDTV unless i can fine a 42-46inch one for 400$ or less, i really have no need for one, my 9 year old 27 inch CRT Tube TV works just fine

the economy does not play into this, ive always been a cheap bastard

So what are your thoughts on 46" in the bedrooms? Sounds too big?

I used to have a 50" in my bedroom, but moved that to the living room and bought a 40". I think 40" is about the perfect size for my bedroom. Most people have TVs in their bedroom that are way too small for the distance they're viewing it from.

Not at all. Even in the smallest room (12x14) it's fine. All have blu-ray players and DirecTV HD receivers, so the picture is great. All also have a fixed viewing position (the bed, of course) so angle is not really an issue. Bedrooms are perfect for this, and dressers make perfect stands. No wall mounting required.

Hell, my main viewing position in the HT for the 67" LED DLP is only about 13 feet away.

Remember, a 46" 16:9 TV is about the same size as a 36" 4:3 TV, just wider.

One thing I've learned about TVs, especially 16:9 HDTVs, is always go a step bigger than you think you should. TVs tend to seem to shrink as you get used to them, and you always wish you got the bigger one later.

I have a HDTV tuner for my computer. The computer has dual 22" widescreen monitors and 5.1 surround sound.
To get the same out of a non computer I'd need a 22" or whatever is close HDTV, a surround receiver, and speakers. Why spend $1000 or whatever it costs these days when my computer can do a better job?

That's what she said.

Until I can afford 3 chip DLP 4K projector, no. The 3 LCD 1080p projector will have to do til then.

Not in the market for another HDTV, but I'm cutting back on spending for other stuff. So the economy is having an effect on me.

I'm not afraid of losing my job yet, but I'm building up my savings, just in case.

I already have a 61" 1080P in the living room. I was going to get a 32-46" 1080P for the bedroom, until I unexpectedly had to drop $3k on a new furnace today.

No. Kinda want one, but I don't really have a 'living'-wage job right now. Couple that with wanting to get other things first, and there we go. I am tempted by the $650 Samsung 720P TVs I saw at Costco the past 2 weeks though. I remember when they were $800 starting price last year. Oh well, wouldn't want a 720P now anyways.

Nope, I purchased a 50" 1080p Plasma, that was three months old, for $750 (on craigslist). I doubt I'd find that good of a deal any time soon in a store.

No new HDTV purchase. I'll make due w/ my 720p 37" Vizio for a while.

I'll buy a 1080p set when I finally decide to jump into Blu-ray.
