Are you buying an HD 7970 on Monday the 9th?

Two 6950's in CF put the beating on two 6970's at times. But we are talking bout dual gpu performances. Now thats another turd in the drinking water. Did Amd sort out the load balancing? The two gpus trying to sync with each other. Previous cards it was responsible for stuttering issues. Even Nvidia had the same problem. PCI-E is updated cards are updated but are the way sli and CF goes about updated?

Well, I guess we can guess for a while just how they will all compare to the 580 :\.

The thing though is that AMD's lineup is so full of cards over the $300 price point that I just don't see the 580 being a good buy the moment these cards go on sale. There's just not a lot of room for a card whose only advantage at that point would be to be a good value. With the same price and performance, a 78x0 would be a better buy simply because it's less power hungry.
 
Extremely impressive numbers so far in this poll, 33 people buying a 7970 in a few days. Wow, hopefully they have better stock quantities than they did at the 5870 launch, because demand looks very high for this card.

The numbers actually surprise me that more people aren't buying one. I thought they'd be reversed

Do you literally mean just unlocking the shaders and not upping the clocks on core/mem? A 6950 is just a manufacturer-gimped 6970 so upping the clocks is second nature. Upping voltage is optional (but recommended for anything higher than ~880 core imo). Furmark shows a stock 6950 at 88fps and a shader-unlocked 6950 @ 6970 clocks is pumping out 115fps. That's a wee bit more than 3-5%, more like 31%.

I am waiting for the best product @ $200 once both AMD and nVidia have released cards at that price.

If neither of the companies offer a decent product at that price, I will be waiting.
 
At 100 participants, we see a 35% rate of expected purchase. That's pretty impressive for a single SKU of a whole new line of cards.

I said nothing about overclocking, only unlocking disabled cores. And show me one real-world test where 6970 is 31% faster than 6950. Even theoretical shader performance differs by only 20% so in real world it's usually much less, more like 10-15%.

It barely beats a gtx580 when the person running the benchmark is catering to nvidia cards by running MSAA.

When MSAA is off it's a different story, and I'm sure you're thinking that MSAA improves image quality so it should be on. The thing is that MSAA is useless in games that use deferred rendering and FXAA/MLAA are much better options for removing jagged edges.

Also expect driver maturity to change how the 7970 performs in bf3 and other games.

Well then anyone in their right mind would wait for "driver maturity" to actually happen until purchasing it. You don't pay early adopter tax, and you get the performance you are supposed to right out of the box.

As far as benchmarking preferences.....I don't buy it.

1. Last I heard AMD did better on MSAA then nVidia not the other way around.
2. FXAA/MLAA are just blur filters and cannot even come close to MSAA. (Or preferably CSAA+TrAA; which literally take changing one line of code to use over MSAA and provide far better quality and performance)
