Are you buying either the GTX 1070 or the GTX 1080?

  • Yes, a GTX 1080 for me.

  • Yes, a GTX 1070 for me.

  • No, and I'm not in the market for a new GPU anytime soon.

  • No, I plan to buy something else instead (please elaborate in thread).

I'm waiting for GTX 1070 reviews and then I will decide whether I will buy it or not. If it will be below Titan X in any game then definitely no money from me for Nvidia.

Yeah, my previous post of 249 is a very low figure. I would gladly take more performance for a little more cash especially with the 390/390x ballpark figure.

I really need to see the non FE NVidia cards though. 379 could be a good dealbreaker for my needs too.

I'm fine with a $400 range as long as it's 50% performance than my current card.

So even if it loses by half of a frame per second in one game, one that you don't play, you're not going to buy it? Interesting.

2x performance for $200.00 has been my metric for a long time, and I've generally done well in hitting it with targeted upgrades (every once in a while I am forced to upgrade because a card craps out, I still try to get the best I can for as little as possible in those scenarios). If NV and AMD are going to up price then I'll just keep waiting until something decent shows up. 2 kids and a mortgage keeps my gaming to an emaciated minimum nowadays.

Looks like neither the 1080 or 1070 will satisfy this requirement, so I'll be looking forward to the Polaris GPU's, the 1060ti or gp106 chips.

Might also be able to snag a sweet deal on a used 390/970 class card used as people offload as well, but those would have to fall well below $200 for me to consider them over something new.

^This 1080 is a great launch for consumers in general. I could pick up a 380x or 390 for my spare computer.

In real world games in most certainly won't be faster than a Titan X, or even a 980TI, unless you're planning on doing specific things in VR.

Why should I? Come on, GTX 1070 is meant to be slightly slower than new flagship card - GTX 1080. Not to mention that GTX 1070 is 16nm card, not 28nm like Titan X, huge leap between those two. You should really take a look how GTX 670 performed when it was released. For me it's faster overall or it's not. I don't accept things like "it's faster in some conditions". Not to mention that GTX 770 4GB version which is nothing but slightly overclocked GTX 680 released in 2012 is still performing very well. It shows how great that chip is.

Just to remind you

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5818/nvidia-geforce-gtx-670-review-feat-evga/6

Let me also remind you that it was the first time when GTX x70 card was based on 104 chip, not 110.

That's the deal between me as potential customer and Nvidia as manufacturer. They want my money? Ok, no problem, I want good product (fast GPU). They want to be greedy? Ok, they can be but they won't see my money. It's really as simple as that.

edit

You should take a look how "powerful" GTX 970 really is in new games compared to the GTX 980. It's not even 2 years old GPU and it already starts to perform like shit.

That's one of the reasons why I didn't buy GTX 970. I knew that it will start to perform like shit at some point and look, it's happening. GTX 1070 on paper also looks like a joke when compared to the GTX 1080 but I'm waiting for reviews to check how it performs.

Seeing as you are a fellow i5 2500k owner, is the 2500k going to be a bottleneck to this card?

I have the same ram as you also, 8gb corsair vengeance. I was thinking of getting a 1070, and upgrading my SSD from a crucial M4 to an 850 Pro, maybe adding another 8GB of RAM. Worth it?

I'm also due for a monitor upgrade from my 24"ultrasharp 2405FPw to really justify upgrading my card.

anyone with thoughts/experience with these cards and a slightly older system based around the i5?

Also would love a 27" monitor, or 34" wide....

You will see a *huge* performance boost in going from a 580 to a 1070, basically will be night and day. Will you get better performance with a faster CPU? Probably, but frankly I doubt it'd be a big deal.

Get the 1070, get a nice high-resolution monitor (preferably with G-Sync), and enjoy.

probably going to add in another 8GB ram while i'm at it. Maybe even a new Samsung 256/512 GB SSD to replace the 128GB crucial M4....

No idea where to start with the monitor.
