Are you arrogant enough to name your children "Jr" "II" etc?

Let's hear it.

I also just saw Will Smith's family...

Willow Smith (Will Smith's Daughter)
Jaden Smith (Jada Smith's Son)

Poor Trey is unwanted. 🙄

Edit, actually Trey's full name is Willard. 🙄

I always thought it would be good to name my kid Fucker. That way, when they won't allow my kid to go to school or something because of his name, I could sue for millions.

Amirite?

Legally, you may not be able to name your kid Fucker.

jr. isn't arrogant. II, III, IV, is douchebaggery.

unless you're george foreman, then it's :awe:

I don't see the arrogance in naming you kid a "Jr" or "III". It's family pride.

An interesting trend that I've seen is people naming the eldest son Tres, Quattro, Cinco, etc. The first male in each generation gets a spanish numeral for their name. I'm talking white folks, too, not just hispanic. I've never seen it anywhere but Texas, but it may be more common than I know.

My Muslim friend was telling me about how they name their kids. Your middle names are your father's middle names preceded by your father's first name (recursively defined names FTW). So if your Dad's name is Ali and your Grandfather's name is Muhammed (and let's assume he doesn't know his Dad's name) then your name is
[firstName] Ali Muhammed [lastName], or expressed in C#

Code:
class Muslim : Person {
  public override String GetMiddleName() {
    if (father == null) return middleName;
    return middleName + father.GetMiddleName();
  }

  public String Name {
    get { return String.Format("{0} {1} {2}", firstName, GetMiddleName(), lastName); }
  }
}

I think it's a nifty way of carrying on your name.

if I ever had a daughter, I think I'd name her after my dad just to piss him off 😉

my dad's name is Rene... he's perpetually annoyed that he always gets mail addressed to Ms. Rene X.

You stated the not knowing his dad's name... so, does it only use the names of 2 generations prior? Father's middle name is going to the grandfather's middle name and the great-grandfather's first name?

So will the son get the whole father's middle name, or are the names changed for each generation?

Anyhow, seems like a slightly more complicated version of the Russian naming convention.

The "middle-name" of any Russian is that individual's father's name, plus an ending that matches the gender of the current generation.

My daughter has the initials S.A.M., thought about calling her Sam because of that. yes, she has 2 middle names. one for my ex-wife's grandma and one for my mom.

My middle name is my Dad's name, which is pretty cool IMO 🙂

also, same.

Oddly enough, my dad doesn't have a middle name.
So they kind of started a brand new tradition. My sister did the same for her kid, although a little modified, by using her husband's father's first name as her kid's middle name.

I think I might use my name or my dad's name as the middle name for my first male child. Not sure yet.

It regresses for as far as they can trace the names. She says she has friends back in Jordan who can give their name for dozens of generations.

Edit - "dozens" seems like a lot, maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. It's 3am.

My brother has my dads middle name, and I have the same initials as my mum (first+middle+last).
I assume they did both intending it to have meaning.

How is it arrogant and what is it to you?

Word.

Many families have traditional names used here and there - how in the hell is that arrogant? OP needs to pull their head out of their ass.

My middle name is my maternal grandmother's maiden name, so it is sort of cool to have that carried down the family. The wife and I were talking about potential children's names and we went through some genealogy stuff to find common family names on both sides to create first and middle names. In addition we'll probably continue my middle name (i.e. maternal grandmother's line) and give our kids two middle names each.

how does your daughter have 2 middle names but only 3 initials? :hmm:
