Are you an OSX poweruser? If so what does your desktop look like?

Ns1

No Lifer
I got a super n00b OSX desktop, wanted to know if you OSX masters have gangster desktops or simpleton ones like mine.

power users only need terminal(s)

gangster is having about 20 RDP windows open at once 🙂 and a bunch of shells 🙂

honestly i think of apple as my "after-work" interface. simpleton - easy enough for grandma, 3yr old, or stranger to use; without effing it up.

after a long day looking at many many windows i just like to KISS ya know?

I have a dual monitor setup, and I use 3 spaces.

Space1 - Safari, Textmate
Space2 - Database (SQL Developer), CVS Clients
Space3 - Communication (Email, iChat(local server)), Things(app), Notes, etc.

Terminal(5+ tabs, for DB connections, servers) and other stuff floats through all spaces.

Sadly I would probably have to blur it all out if I took screens 🙂.

that's why I don't post up my windows desktop lol

it looks cool, but you guys can't see any of these folder names! lol

I'm gonna have to look up this spaces shit since I've never used it before in my life

Don't remember who but somebody a long time ago posted their OSX desktop on a ATOT thread. It was a picture of a room, no icons but if you clicked on the trash can in the room it actually deleted whatever was in the trash can in OSX. Not exactly super power, but I definitely can't figure out how to do that (I tried lol) was one of the sweetest desktops I've ever seen. Anyone remember what the hell I'm talking about?

I have pictures of my kids rotating every 15 minutes.

I have as few icons on my desktop as possible.

Here is what my set-up looked like in June 2009. It looks pretty much the same except 1) there are different pictures on the desktop now and 2) the monitor on the right just died, so I have a 19" LCD TV/Monitor standing in until I can get a permanent replacement.

Background changes every 15 minutes I think, only things on my desktop are drive icons, and the occasional file.

Que - Sounds like BumpTop.

No, I meant it was an actual photograph of a room and the trash can in the room worked as the OSX trashcan when you clicked on it. There were no icons (that I remember) it was super clean. Sounds weird but if you see a screen shot it was damn cool. I'd love to find that original thread, I know somebody with skills could.

I've got a few Macs under my belt. And it's all pretty simple.

At work, I program and do some sysadmin stuff and server administration so I have a 27" iMac Core i5 with a 23" old Cinema Display. Usually have only attached servers and disks on the desktop, have a full application bar, about 5 ARD windows, 1000 shells, TextMate, and Safari windows, and maybe iTunes open. I use about 5-8 spaces on a day to day basis. My desk is clean. Just the Mac and a drive dock.

At home, I have my 27" iMac to do pretty much anything I need real estate for (and now play steam). I do some mixing on Reason (a decent synth/sequencer that I use to compose. It doesn't have the greatest sound engine). I do not want to take a picture of my desk. Picture the computers in my sig and about a month of paperwork on the desk. There. 😛

Then I've got my 13" and 17" MacBook Pros. They're all pretty much clones of each other.

Only new difference is I have an iPad and a magic mouse.

For the most part I have 4 spaces.

1) Chat and 'fun'.
2) Textmate/cyberduck/etc
3) Technical Manuals
4) Photoshop/video/etc

The center monitor is the 24 inch apple display attached to a 15 inch macbook pro. On the right via synergy I have a ubuntu machine that acts as a media server/git repository/and LAMP setup for testing.

Spaces is cool if you don't need simultaneous access to different programs. Otherwise it becomes another button to press and that gets old switching 300x a day

I mapped the side button on my Razer mouse to open Spaces, while it is an additional button it's quick and works really well for me.

Yea.. I've still yet to find a way to make it work that I find super useful. Usually it just slows me down.
