as of right now I'm not a donor. This quote from the governmental organ donation site kinda freaks me out:

Myth: Doctors will not try to save my life if they know I want to be a donor.
Fact: The medical staff trying to save lives is completely separate from the transplant team. Donation takes place and transplant surgeons are called in only after all efforts to save a life have been exhausted and death is imminent or has been declared.

I don't understand what they mean by that, so I worry that even if I am still alive, they may donate my organs, just because I'm going to die in the next week or month or whatever.

To be honest I had to check my drivers license to even be sure, though I find that I'm not.

I used to be designated a donor. In fact, I used to also donate blood regularly up until a few years ago when the FDA stated that I'm no longer eligible because of possible BSE exposure due to the time I spent in service in Europe in the 80's.

Now I kind of just don't care. I can't even afford health insurance anymore. Health care in our society is all about profit, and it disgusts me to think about it, though I suppose I'll sign this license again for what good it might do someone, in spite of my sincere belief that some hmo will find a way to make a profit on the deal.
