Image quality at 1280x960 will be better as that matchs the aspect ratio of your monitor so it will keep things from looking a bit short and fat.

I don't see any ghosting on this monitor what so ever in gaming or DVD's.

Yeah i dont think 9700 pro is good enough. For such resolutions, i hardly get ~50 fps on 9800 XT @ 1024x768.
