That would be great! If you can fiqure out a way to end social security and still honor the benifiets of the millions like me who have paid in for 30+ years and are reaching retirement age. Unforetunately any plan to transition SS to a privatized plan would either require massive tax funding, or would leave an entire generation out in the cold with no bennies.

Never say it will not hurt but the chance of me seeing any of SS money by the time I am retire is next to zero. (30+ yrs)

How about this, set a date or set of dates where the conversion will taking place. Take all the money left in SS and portion out the % (inflate adjusted) that you contributed (minus any amount you already dawn) to private plans where you will manage it.
This mean, only people contributed to SS and alive will got something. Sometime will be zero if you already dawn all your fund.

Hopefully everyone will see 10-20 cent to $1 that they put in SS in their life time and hopefully do something about it by the time they retire.

As they do, they will suck up more and more of the resources of this country that they have been contributing to for the past 40 years. They will start shifting their investments from growth to income-producing investments. This means the economy will shift in some significant way.

And guess who will get the burden of all this? We will!

Are these issues you all have started thinking about? We're not talking long-term here either. We're talking right around the corner! It's gonna be a sh!t storm.

If you're young and in debt now, barely making it paycheck to paycheck, you ain't seen nothin yet!

Fixed that for you. I am guessing you will have a different perspective when it is your turn to retire.

Increasing spending and cutting taxes, creating the largest deficits in our countrys history and spending billions on the so called "War on Terror"

And when the current administration actually tried to do something about it they were demonized for it. The opposition had no ideas how to fix it so instead pursued a two track attack scaring current retirees while at the same time telling everyone else that there is no crisis that requires immediate attention.

Hmm ....

Boomers retire, they spend their "nest eggs" over time. Younger people get promotions to take the place of the retirees.
More people rely on SS ...

There are indeed pros and cons. I work for a company that is going to very do well when lots of baby boomers retire. :)

I accept as fact that some of us are going to get screwed out of SS benefits. I don't actually expect there to be anything there when I'm, eligible ... I invest what Uncle Sam lets me keep so that I won't have to count on SS when I do retire.

Good, new fresh innovative ideas will flow into business instead of the stagnation that faces some companies.

Damn right. Pension + 457 + wise spending = win

Sorry, but I believe this war exists. Cartoons just being one example.

It's the spending for everything else besides the WoT that concerns me. After all, a military is at least Constitutionally mandated unlike the other 75% of government services. Billions for Katrian Aid (aka re-building a city under sea level) being an even better example of federal government waste.

I don't mind a city being under sea level. NO was fvcked because engineers were not given money and resources to do their jobs (fix levees).
