I remember the Nickelodeon TV show Are You Afraid of the Dark used to have me and my sister and cousins absolutely glued to the TV whenever it was on, which I think was Saturday nights.

Did any one else find themselves addicted to the show? I remember sometimes it did actually creep me out.
One of my favorite ones, that was a little creepy (aired in late 94, so I was 7 😉), was the episode Tale of the Renegade Virus.

Yeah, I just got reminded of this show by that damn site io9, when they embedded this clip about virtual reality episodes of various shows. episode clip
damn them. I miss my childhood again.

I was just looking up episodes to see when they aired, and was reminded of so many other episodes we had watched. Nickelodeon used to be a kickass channel growing up. I mean, that show doesn't even exist anymore. Poor kids these days.

Yeah I remember watching that show as a kid but don't remember much about it.

Yeah, I sadly remember far more from my childhood than I wish I did. Makes me slightly depressed remembering how fun and carefree it was, makes me want to do it all over again. 😀

I have a very photographic memory, and I can visually recall so many things from when I was young, it's nuts.

just saw the same thing on i09. I love that site. Also the clip brought some memories from my childhood as well.

I sorta remember that show, but I remember goosebumps more. I used to read the books too, they were my favorite series in school.

The ep with the crazy clown doll scared me 🙁

one of the scariest things I ever saw as a kid. And my parents had no problem letting me watch scary movies and gory things, or playing violent games for that matter.
(though strangely, they did take back a SmashMouth CD they bought me once they learned of the lyrics. :laugh🙂

I was absofuckinglutely terrified of that damn doll.
That, and the goosebumps doll. I hated demonic dolls the most of anything I think. 😀

I remember walking into my kitchen and was terrified because I could swear I saw that doll digging around in an open drawer. I think I stood there in shock and then ran out, only to very cautiously sneak back in to confirm that I just saw a demonic doll rummaging about in our kitchen. Thankfully, I realized I was only seeing things.
damn imaginative mind.
actually come to think of it, that may have been a nightmare in which I swore I was awake. I've always had terrifying and shockingly real, though insane, dreams. Can't remember. I did sometimes think I saw crazy things while awake as a kid. Like the sun just chilling next to our house. Yes, that is correct - the sun. Just sitting on the lawn next to the house. My mind is whacked out.

Only other thing that scared me more as a kid was the movie Poltergeist. The movie itself didn't really scare me. It, however, burned a lasting impression in that little mind of mine.
See, I had a small, old TV in my room. A few nights later as I was trying to fall asleep, the TV made little noises. Just the electronics fussing about, making little pops and cracks. Next morning I demanded my parents take that tv out of my room.

That kind of shit didn't only ruin some nights of sound sleep in my childhood. My mind still plays terrifying tricks on me to this day, at 21yo. I've been jolted awake twice this year by a shocking realization that something was in my bed. With my mind still cloudy, I couldn't react in any other fashion that flip the sheets and fly out of the bed. Once, it was a snake. The second time, some small critter that I cannot remember.
But they weren't there. Took a few minutes to convince myself that my mind isn't wired right and there is absolutely no way a snake is in my bed. 😀

Come to think of it. I think my mind is this way because of shows like AYAOTD and Goosebumps (and I read a great deal of the actual books too). I traumatized myself as a kid. 😛
