Are the American people being held at the mercy of a dictator?

I thought this was an interesting line (didn't have time to catch the whole speech, but I did catch this part), and was curious to see what people thought.

Nope. I see no immediate threat to us, especially with the world focused on Iraq right now.

No. My Iraqi neighbor is looking forward to Saddam being removed, and prays he can again visit his family who is held hostage by Saddam's regime. However, he despises George Bush for pushing for war thatwill jeopordize his family. Catch 22, eh?:(

Gee. what does your neighbor want to happen instead? Wait around another 20 years or so and then when Saddam dies hope that another maniac dictator doesn't take his place so that then he might finally be able to go visit his family?

No, but I'm not afraid of Osama Bin Laden, Kim Jong Il, or Iran, either. So I guess maybe I'm just crazy or something.

Before 9/11 you weren't afraid of terrorists hopping in planes and aiming for buildings were you?

But now it could happen.

And will happen again. No matter if we try to stop them first or not.

So why not at least try?

Think of a coup, or surgical removal of this cancer called Saddam. He feels the US should have the military expertise to do that. Now he is not so sure.

Neither am I.

Afraid of Iraq? Not for my own personal safety. To think that Iraq could project conventional military power into the United States is absurd, and won't have a vehicle capable of delivering WMDs to the United States in the forseeable future. Any ties between Iraq and terrorism are tenuous and unsubstantiated at best...though I wouldn't put it past Sadaam. I do, however, feel that he is a risk to Americans in the area. I think that his past actions have shown that he is capable of brutal acts of retribution. I also believe that US response to anything he did to harm an American would be immediate, furious, and merciless.

You're the idiot around here, as evidenced by the consistent foolishness of your posts. I still haven't read one halfway intelligent posting from you.

Your example is pretty stupid and doesn't accurately relate to what was said in the earlier post. Saddam isn't in these peoples house holding a knife to their throat. It's stupid to despise Bush when we will be going in there to help the Iraqi people. The Iraqi people have more to fear from Saddam and his military than from the U.S military. The U.S is more stringent than any other military force about attempting to avoid damage to non military locations and personnel. But if Iraq is ever going to be freed, we are going to have to go in and remove Saddam. That is unavoidable and I think you would find a good majority of Iraqis would welcome us going in.

You're a little piece of crap SnapIT.

Oh, i am, now am i? and still, i will be more involved in a war if it happens than you will be, what does make your war mongering butt?

You are young, probably very very young, so i understand that you do not understand the concept, the concept being that bombing a country is NOT something you do for the sake of the civilian population of said country... ehhh... wait, even a young man would get that, a moron wouldn't though...

No....and I'm still not. If you live your life in fear, you let them win. I personally would have flown on Sept. 12th if it was possible. I could be killed in a attack tomorrow, or I could get hit by a bus, or nothing could happen. I figure I might as well live my life to the fullest and take what comes. :)

The thing with Iraq is that they never attacked us, don't threaten us as far as I can see, wasn't connected at all to 9/11, and is not credibly linked to al qaeda. Also, Bush is having a hard time getting Iraq's neighbors onboard. That tells a lot about the real threat level there.

I personally believe the Iraq threat is being grossly exaggerated in part to further an agenda I'm not privy to. However, Iraq is linked to terrorism, has a brutal evildoing dictator and a population currently under UN oppression vis a vis ridiculous sanctions. I wouldn't mind seeing him go but I do mind seeing my neighbors kids sent off to die to reach that goal.

You are saying this about the same bombers that bombed the chinese embassy in bosnia, and damn near a scandinavian platoon too... ?

So this is my family held hostage in a house, and someone not knowing who to shoot at, if you want it to be realistic? Yup, trust them...

I'm not afraid of Iraq or saddam. I'm actually more afraid of Bush Jr. It's like letting a kid run the white house.

iraq has never been a threat to the us. gwb is just pissed that his daddy couldn't finish what he started. by the way do you think gwb will finish with osama? i think not... all the bush family has ever managed to do is fvck up our country more than it already is. grampa bush stated it and the next 2 generations are just taking up where he left off. although this generation that is in office has done way more to fvck us than imaginable.... ted kenedy hasn't even been able to screw sh1t up this bad. don't you find it ironic that the bush's have been the ones to arm most of our "enemies"?
