Yep.

Go outside and look up. Then look down. I assure you that you can observe stuff at a greater distance when looking up than you can when looking down.

Where is "up" pointing to? We're not exactly stationary with respect to the universe.

So because "everyone" else is a certain way, you must also be this way? Isn't this how everyone is as well? Then who can we blame for our rotten society except for ourselves? After all, it is we who form this society.

Hell no. Most people are also pretty stupid, for example. I don't have to be that way, but I would be stupid to not take their actions into consideration.

I'm not interested in blame, and I don't expect society to change at all. Change does come, but it is always so gradual that it's measured in generations, or sometimes decades. Maybe when I am older, more mature, and not living check to check I'll take an interest in speeding the process up. But for now all I'm trying to bring order to is myself and my stuff. And, quite seriously, if more people thought the same way the world would be a better place; "get the log out of your own eye," and all that.

Yes, we are quick to criticize while also carrying the same issues and problems. We see the world as full of problems yet don't realize how wrong we might also be. It is very easy to blame others or look at others with disgust; a bit more challenging to figure out yourself however.

If you want the world to change, then you have to start with yourself.

Thanks.

I'll tell you what. Go outside and look in every direction. I can assure you that if you are standing upright, when you look in the direction of your feet it becomes obvious that your "observable" universe is obviously not centered at any point on your body.

It's still observable whether you can immediately observe it or not. I didn't say I was the center of the observed universe, I said observable. It is possible to observe it if you go to great enough lengths to get around the obstacle that prevents you from currently doing so.

There will always be obstacles to observing it all at the same time. A telescope or satellite such as WMAP can only observe a small portion of the universe at one time. Does that mean the observable universe is only that small cross section? That small cross section is the observed (at any given time) universe. The observable is what is able to be observed, perhaps at a later time or with greater effort which is much larger.

mmhmm. But for me it isn't about shame; I mind my own business for two main reasons. Helping people fix themselves is hard and really time-intensive. Helping people fix themselves makes me feel good (sympathetic joy or accomplishment when they succeed, schadenfreude when they don't), and that is often enough to satisfy me. Sometimes the distraction is good, but over the long term it means my own stuff never gets fixed. When everyone does that nobody gets fixed, and schadenfreude becomes the norm.

And, if you go around the object in your way (to the other side of the Earth) then it's the center of the Earth that is the center of the observable universe.

I of course want to get my way and do what I want to do. However, I do not expect the world to allow me to have my way.
