Are you a self-centered person?

Do you think that the universe and society revolve, or should revolve, around your personal thoughts and feelings?

If you say yes, that's cool - it's a natural human tendency. If you say no, prepare to be cross-examined :colbert:

Just the entire universe. No matter where I am, that is the center of the observable universe.

I am self-centered in that most of my thoughts concern myself. I wish that most of society would avoid me, however (and lucky for me they do :awe: ).

I think so, when I open a loaf of bread I'll grab the ones from the middle and leave the end pieces for "other people"....

My wife does this with every single loaf.

But of course it's cool to me, because I think the heels are the best part of the bread.

The point isn't whether or not everything revolves around you, merely to find a soulmate that you can find a common center to revolve around.

I think I'm completely self-centered, but I don't think that the universe or society revolves around me. What I mean by self centered is that myself and my own interests are all that I care about ultimately. An ideal universe WOULD revolve around me. I work with what I have though. This doesn't preclude me from helping other people or even loving and caring for other people. I just recognize that I'm doing those things for some personal reason. In the case of love, I feel that I'm benefiting by feeling the emotion of love and by receiving reciprocal love from others. If it just so happens that what pleases and benefits me is the very act of pleasing and benefiting someone else, that doesn't change the selfish nature of it.

You should bust her for it anyway and use the "guilt trip" for sexual leverage..

I'm very selfless. Possibly too selfless, but I get pleasure out of helping others.

I try not to be but I don't have much success with it. Though at least I do recognize it as a shortcoming, which puts me way ahead of most other people.

I generally go out of my way to help other people, and tend to put people's desires before mine. I also don't have patience for ill-considered, or what I consider wrong opinions. I'll dismiss what I consider stupid, and if I get too much stupid, I'll dismiss people completely. I'll still help them, but won't value their intellectual contributions. So what's that make me?

Society in general and most people in particular are self-centered. The ones that aren't serve because it serves them (belief in karma, or it just makes them feel good). So, while nobody else revolves around me, I am after my own interests 100% of the time. My interests often line up with others', but I won't do something that I don't see bringing a return of some kind.

Back in the day when I was naive (5 years ago) I was much more altruistic. I quickly learned that very few people or institutions work that way, and in fact the bar is generally set quite low. If I lived in, say, Star Trek's Federation where almost everyone tries to get along, pull their own weight, and enjoy life, I would probably act differently myself. But that is all fantasy. Most people don't even give enough of a damn to do their own jobs right (ie, thoroughly), let alone devote effort to others.

I thought you leave the end pieces because they'll go stale slower/protect the rest of the bread.

I don't know.
Since you'll only examine if I say "no", then that's my choice! How to find out otherwise :hmm:

No. My main personal flaw is the fear of inconveniencing others. So by that, I don't consider myself to be self-centered.

So because "everyone" else is a certain way, you must also be this way? Isn't this how everyone is as well? Then who can we blame for our rotten society except for ourselves? After all, it is we who form this society.

Do you not inconvenience others because you're afraid of their reactions or because you are genuinely concerned for them? Got to ask yourself.

Me personally, I find that I am full of contradictions and full of other hideous values. I show a good face but hide the bad stuff from others. I need to know more so I can find out. Not easy though.

The local food bank probably thinks you're creepy. Every time you stop to donate something...

"Oh yeah, fuck yeah. You take this bag of food. Take the whole thing. You know you want it. Oh god that's so hot. You want all of it in you."
