Thankfully, the garbage company comes every Wednesday morning and takes care of that for me. (the lazy bastards still make me move the trash cans to the curb though!)
Twas a time...we lived in the middle of nowhere in central Idaho, and we had to haul our trash to the county dump. Never cared for that chore, but, whatcha gonna do?
Every couple of years, I'll have a load of crap that I have to haul to the dump. About $20 for a pick-up full.
i guess its a rural thing eh?
We've lived in some pretty rural areas over the years where your garbage was your problem, but nowadays, we live in a city of about 200K, and the county dump is about a 35-40 mile drive. Far too many people here just dump their trash on the side of the roads or in some farmer's field. (assholes...that should be a felony, with severe jail time) There's a street not far from me that is bordered on one side by almond orchards, and the other side has an 8 foot sound wall. People are always dumping shit there.
This is the first place we've ever lived where the city does "green waste" pick up other than with your regular trash pick up. (we have a black can for "garbage" and a green can for yard waste) Just stack your cut up trees and bushes, limbs, leaves, etc. on the curb, and the city will come pick it up, free of charge.

When I was growing up we used to burn our garbage. We lived in the middle of no where. Ah the days when no one cared about global warming.
Heck I remember the golden days of pouring motor oil down the near by street sewer.
When I first started working construction in the early 70's, we'd dig a pit in the center of the future roadway, pull heavy equipment over that pit, then dump the oil. When we got done, just cover it up. Hell, it's gonna be covered with asphalt anyway...That practice nowadays will cost you up to $100,000.
