I'm a Netlfix member for a few months now. For the first 2 months, I was very happy with them and the DVD availability was VERY GOOD (only one 'long wait' and the rest available 'now').

After a couple months, suddenly many DVDs in the queue started to show 'Short Wait' or 'Long Wait'. I've over 50 titles in the queue and about 29% of them with the 'Short Wait' or 'Long Wait'. I wonder do they lure customers with good service like everything is available NOW and once we are permanent customers, they'll start to show some waits on many DVDs? To proof it, I would like your help. Can you guys check these titles see how's the availability? Below are part of the titles that are not available now:

Powaqqatsi - Short Wait
Insomnia - Short Wait
Panic Room - Short Wait
Y Tu Mama Tambien - Long Wait
The Sum of All Fears - Long Wait
The Scorpion King - Long Wait
Koyaanisqatsi - Very Long Wait

Also, please let us know how long you've been Netflix member so we can tell if they use this trick.

Mostly, it might be my bad luck but I would like find out so I won't spend $ on lottery 🙂

I've been a member for over a year now. It is rare that a DVD is not in stock. They turn them around very fast, I'm happy with the service.

eh, i don't notice anymore, then again my queue goes way past 100🙂 adding tv series like sopranos and original startrek will do that.

i just stick all the long wait stuff at the front. long wait just means your chances are lower.

I've never had a long wait before. My que never goes over 10 though. They just opened new centers close to me and the service went from good to excellent in terms of turnaround times.

The Scorpion King - Long Wait
Shows long wait for me also. I got this one a while back without a problem. I wonder if they lower the # of copies they have of ones that have been out a while. I notice now that popular new release ones are always in stock when they used to be a little harder to get.

By the way, my Netflix is in San Jose, CA (the first distribution center). Maybe different distribution centers will have different availability.

Possibly, though at least some titles (ones they have less copies of) get shipped from whichever center gets it back first.

I've been a member for over 2 years and no, service has not declined. Some titles are stocked in more depth than others, like the first 2 season 1 stargate DVDs [much fewer than later ones], and so the wait is longer. For "short wait" items you have a good chance of getting (one of) them if you keep them at the top of the queue.

> Insomnia - Short Wait
If you mean the non-US version, then OK I'll hurry up and watch the copy I'm holding 😉

Rent Amelie, Chushingura, or Iron Monkey while you're waiting 🙂

Watched Amelia (this is a must!) and Iron Monkey (many years ago). Chushingura? hmm... never heard of it, will check it out.

It's the story of the 40 samurai described in DeNiro's Ronin. It's good, but more of a drama than an action "samurai epic" like Ran, Yojimbo or the Lone Wolf amd Cub movies are.

i was a Netflix member, i personally think it sucks- it always takes forever to get your movies and most of the time i was getting movies that wouldnt play..and so forth. i quit about 4 months ago.

my netflix distro center is san jose too, i live in the north bay. i get my movies fast, usually before the email comes saying they shipped. 😉

but you're right, WAY too much stuff is out of stock. out of the 400 movies on my list, i counted once and it was like close to 40% had a wait. out of the first 30, only 2 or 3 were available immediatly.

i make up for it by keeping a nice huge list, and having a quick turn around on my end, so i get an average of about 6 movies a week. the service could be a lot better, but i think it's better than the B&M's already, in terms of value.

edit: been a member about a year now. nice list by the way, good to see those Quatsi films in there.

Maybe the San Jose distro center doesn't stock as many DVDs as they used to be.

Wow.... 400 in queue? Are you going to watch every single DVD 😉

I never did like the idea of netflix. Too hard to know if oyu will get the movie you want for the weekend. the 30 day free trial was okay, but its over and I moved on to the walmart dvd club for their 30 free trial. They seem to be pretty quick on getting dvd's out.

Been a member for over 2 years and very rarely have a problem getting the DVDs I want. Even with new releases I get them fairly fast

Last week it was about 29% with the 'wait' and this week more became long/short wait ==> 33%!!!!!!!!!

Maybe they know I posted this thread and purposely put a few more waits for me 🙁 I guess I should not play any lottery this month.

yup, add stuff like sopranos, band of brothers and sex and the city, some star trek stuff and ur queue will grow like mad🙂

or some restored marilyn monroe stuff too, she cracks me up🙂 just watched gentlemen prefer blondes🙂

now to rent some old bond flicks🙂
