I'm a manipulator. I watch the leader, play into his needs, build his trust, then push my influence on him.

This is the same for me. Unfortunately this even happens in situations where I don't know WTF I'm doing so I have been working at being able to take a back seat in those situations.

keep a low profile, esp at first, then once i have a grip on what is going on, starting trying to exert some influence.

Same. To a fault at times, and I get called out on it. But I'm still young, so I can chalk it up to inexperience and try to learn from it.
 
In general I'm am content being a follower and somewhat passive.

However, passive follower != blind follower. I'm a leader when I'm in my realm of expertise/familiarity, and when the sh!t hits the fan (or to prevent it), which is where I thrive.

There are far more true leaders than true followers...and since the poll is tied at 11-11, I think we have some BS wannabee leaders here that probably suck at leading.

Psa, leading is not the same as being a control freak. 😉
