Are you a hardcore Gamestop Reward Costomer?

Are you a hardcore Gamestop Reward Costomer? or User?

YOU must be expert then. I want to ask if is it possible to convert the reward points as a discount toward a purchase?

I have the free member. I despise buying games at gamestop but somehow I bought 1 game at launch because of conveniency and nearby. While making a purchase, The clerk gave me a free reward member card when I didnt ask for it. She says she just give it to me as it is free anyway so I was like uhh ok went along with it. She was a pretty hot girl anyway.

So yeah activated. somehow I got 300 something points after few weeks.

WHAT confused me is that right after I made a second purchase, second visit.... the girl asked me for the member card so I can gain points from the purchase..... I hand the card to her and after all done she says something something about:

"Do you want to use it toward this purchase?"

something like that and I assumed she said if I want to use the points in my card as an discount toward the purchase.... I just say

"next time"

..... although I dont really understand her I just assumed what she said. I want to collect more points so I can put it toward a new game which will be more discounted if more points.

So after..... Now....... I contact gamestop directly and confirm if the points is usable as a discount toward a purchase, they said NO! it can only be use to get ITEMS! PRIZE! and DISCOUNT COUPONS!

So can someone un puzzle this thing? What did the girl said when she asked "If I want to toward blah blah"

??????????????????????

Anyone know?

Can help?

Yes, it's 1000 pts per $1, you can get cash value certificates in multiples of $5.

I've accumulated tens of thousands of points because I filled out my PSP and DS collections this year with used games that are no longer in print new when I see a better deal than ebay resellers. Cashing in on Zelda 3DS XL.

Or you can get more for your points if you use them towards discounts on specific items instead of general cash. eg: might be 10,000 points for a $10 reward that you can use on anything, or that same 10,000 points could get you $15-$20 towards a specific system or used games.

While I dislike alot of things Gamestop does, there aren't many places I'm picking up stuff like Legend of Heroes III PSP complete in box for $6 or Radiant Historia DS for $17 (before they jacked the price after looking it up on ebay) long after they were out of print and only available through resellers at $40+ on ebay/amazon. So many good and pricey limited run obscure Atlus, NIS, etc PSP and DS games slipped under the radar there and are often priced < $5 even with the original case and manual. Most people look for Mario, Pokemon, Call of Duty and ignore those obscure titles that are like gold to me.

I was even able to get a first print copy of Xenoblade Chronicles for $39 before they realized it was selling for $90+ on ebay and started reprinting new ones to sell as used at ebay prices.

With Gamestop now throwing away DS and PSP cases and manuals, I really have no reason to go there anymore. Everything else is new enough that I can find them elsewhere with relative ease and cheap, or since I make an effort to keep up with current releases I can buy everything new instead of having to hunt down an out of print one later. It was nice though seeing a rare DS or PSP RPG for $4 (because Call of Duty, Mario, Pokemon, etc is their bread and butter) and knowing I would have had to pay $30+ used on ebay.

wow smart of them to raise to ebay price.

So my 300 reward points cant make a 59.99 game go any lesser? I cant do anything with it? I might buy a 59.99 game and I expect to use the 300 points as a discount toward the purchase.

the girl/clerk tells me something like "would you want it toward the purchase?" something like that which makes me think that I can use the points as an instant discount toward a 59.99 purchase.

If not, what was she saying to me back then? and I said next time. I didnt even sure what she really said I just assume she asked me if I want to take the 300 points I got in the card as a discount toward a purchase.

I got upgraded to a platinum card because I had an old EBgames card from years back. I'm special ^^

My Power Up card never expires. When I worked at a GameStop, the manager was my good friend and somehow hooked me up. >_>

OP, the rewards points are pretty much a scam. They are a worse value than the old Camel Cash scam. The best part of the Rewards card is that some used games have built in discounts already (I paid $5 less for The Last of Us preowned because of it) and the occasional deals for members (like the Buy 2 get one free or $150 PS3 deal that just ended).

Pretty much. I only got one because I knew the number of used DS and PSP games I'd be picking up at the "member price" would quickly add up well over the $15 cost of the card.

Add in the 2 for 1 or buy 2 get 1 used game deals, and the points on the side, it beat eBay even if I didn't find occasional gems prices 1/3 of eBay prices.

Ill probably have around $100 off when I pick up my Zelda 3DS XL just for buying old cheap DS and PSP games I would have otherwise bought on eBay. Sadly that is coming to an end. With my DS and PSP collections being caught up and them throwing out cases now, they have nothing else there that isn't recent enough that I can't find it elsewhere.

300 pts is like 30 cents....

Need a minimum of 5000 for a $5 off for any new game.

So the clerk back then asked me if I want to deduct the price of the purchase by 30 cents using my free reward member points? just 30 cents wow.

If I buy 5 used game, I will get 5,000 points right? If so then I can spin it toward a 59.99 new release game and get 5 dollar off?

and If youre a casual gamestop buyer, its not worth it to participate and care for the reward system? I only buy games at gamestop once a while. I prefer browsing games with a real sealed box and just take time hang around without cramp room like gamestop.

Right now I have 75,000 Gamestop points. If you are a premium member like me, you can redeem points for coupons toward purchase, actual merchandise like collectable stuff, and they allow you top sometimes redeem points to enter various drawings. Recently they gave away a roughly $90,000 F-150 FX4 with Battlefield 4 paint job, custom sound system and 3 monitors with an Xbox 360 inside. Members used their points to get entries.

If you don't do a good portion of your game shopping at the store, it's not worth worrying about. I don't know what you mean by "browsing games with a real sealed box" as no store puts the games out there for you to hold. They are all behind a glass cabinet (walmart and target), or behind the counter (gamestop).

no, but i had an EB frequent buyer card from 5/98-5/99 and it went to good use as i saved a gross of $60 with it, but it costed $30 so i saved a net $30... perhaps the fact that my first purchase with it was a diamond monster 3dII had something to do with all the money i saved.
