I usually give a 20% plus tip. If it is bad service and if I'm in a restuarant I will will use ketchup to glue a decent tip to the bottom of a plate and spin a nickel and bust the bottom out of the salt shaker if its plastic. .

And you wonder why you get bad service the next time you go in. You probably wonder why your food tastes like saliva also. Keep up the good work.
Who said I wonder? I seldom go back. You will also notice that I said normally I am a great tipper even with mediocre service. Sometimes more than the meal itself. When I get bad service I still leave a tip but give them some work to do to make up for their fvcking off while I was there.

<--long time service industry worker

Taxes here add on an additional 15% to the bill, so I usually leave around 10-15% tip. Crappy service/attitude gets loose change or nothing.

I agree with banned troll, sometimes servers do not deserve a good tip, or any tip at all. However, management should act as a weedeater, when they see someone about to crash and burn. I just dunno about some managers, I am always on the floor myself, my servers actually get mad at me because I talk to their tables so much.

If the service warrants it I will go a bit above and beyond your normal 15%. However if you just give adequate service you'll get the adequate 15%.

I tip 15%, sometimes more for stellar service. Servers make less than I do, and they don't get the benefits I do to compensate either. So I always include at least some tip, though its usually on my VISA when I'm paying at the cashier and not at the table.

You haven't noticed any salt shakers with the bottom missing have you? 😉

I almost always tip ~20%, if the service is marginal, I still tip ~10%. I guess I'm a sucker. I can't bring myself to stiff a waiter/waitress regardless of the service.

You aren't stiffing them That is what you are paying for (tip)....SERVICE. You get to decide how much it is worth. If it sucks they deserve nothing. Just don't be an asshole about every little thing.

Vote, and give a reason either way.

Servers, feel free to vent.

I put myself into the awesome category, but then again, I always set myself up for good service.

If my total is under $15, I usaully tip 100%.

Huh, imagine that. Someone who works in the service industry tips high.

I know, I know...it's hard work  *NEWS FLASH* not really. I have no sympathy for those who whine about tips, since waiters, waitresses, and the like are overpaid imo. Not making enough money, get an education and a better job. Otherwise, STFU as there are many, many individuals with the same basic skills (literally, none) who make a lot less than you.

Seriously, how many fvcking times does this same thread have to be posted here.

Good day

PS - I tip, but not rarely more than 15-20 if the bill is moderate

Erm, OTAY. I never said the job difficult. Trying to please EVERY person that walks in the door is.
I just wanted some feedback from the ATOT community.

EDIT: Also, most servers in college towns are waiting tables to pay for school. So remember that your waiter may be smarter than you.

Damm, not another tipping thread.
Its the same arguement over and over between the good tippers and the bad tippers.

being a poor college student, i cant spare all that much... i tip about 15%-20%, but i am usually the one that tips when everyone else leaves without tipping for poor service 🙂

"OMFG there was 15 seconds between the time that my glass was empty and when she asked me if I needed a refiLl!! I'M SO NOT TIPPING HER CRAPPY SERVICE!!!"

I'm pretty poor and I still manage to tip at least 20%. When I'm drunk, I tend to tip the deliviery guy a ridiculous amount, as in $7 for an $8 meal.

around 15-20, i just round up or down to a nice even number. I never tip really low unless the service was absolutely atrocious. I dont realy think about setting myself up for bad service since the places i go back to usually have good service.

I will usually tip 15-25 or so. Only with really bad service will I give less than that. I know how hard waiters work, and how their tips are very important.

well i dont think they are that harsh... but truth to be told, i guess i am the only sane person surrounded by a bunch of asshats when it comes to tipping 🙂

10- 14% here!

Why? Well if you expect to live a good life as a food service specialist then you need a reality check. You get an hrly wage, if you don't like the work load you do for that hourly wage find a new job. Your job is to be courteous and not F up my order. For that you expect 15% of the total bill? It's your job, Serve me for what your boss pays you an hour. Youe expect 15% then you better do a damn extraordianry job for me!

I have no problem giving the full 15% on $20 checks but in the last 6- weeks I paid for 5 business lunches for groups of 4-5 averaging $200/bill. $30 for a hr lunch and you served at least 4 other tables along with mine? Last I checked you should not be making $40 -60 hr with that HS education of yours.

No one tips me after I do my job, why is it expected I tip you?
