Are you a "cool parent?"...

A pivotal moment for me was realizing I could say "No." & not have to explain why (& you shouldn't make a habit of explaining why all the time).

One of those little perks about being a parent.

While my parents never stretched the law for me, I find them to be the coolest parents I know. They're definitely the coolest parents I have or will ever have, so I might as well be content.

I think parents probably shouldn't fund their kids' illegal activities, and I think it would be an uncool thing for them to do so.

One of the perks of being any authority figure. There is reasoning behind every decision, but it is generally not appropriate to explain that reasoning every time you make a demand.

I find it disturbing and juvenile that parents would see themselves as "buddies", although I have seen this in a few families I am acquainted with. My parents always have been and always will be my parents - I may be friends with them in addition, but that does not change their status in my life, their authority over me (to an extent, this is diminishing as I age), or my respect for them.

Hazing in itself is a barbaric practice, subject to excess and mob mentality. That adults would sanction such behavior, as well, is despicable.

There is nothing wrong with parents being friends with their children; however, when this overrules the parents' role as role model and disciplinarian, it has become something inappropriate.

My wife and i are a good balance. she always tries to explain her decisions to our kids. sometimes tho kids require a NO w/o reasons given. those times are left up to me. 🙂

Haha, in this respect, I will be a horrible parent. I'm a terrible pushover when it comes to children.

Lol,no, there was a definite "coolness" shortage around here 🙂

Oh, please, you define "cool"!

Well, providing animal entrails and beer was never on my top ten list of things to do around here🙂

😛 It's not about the beer or even the animal entrails, it's about the love.

There's gotta be some limits IMO. Drinking can wait till the age of 21, and the kids can start making their own decisions at the age of 18. I would never buy alcohol/cigarettes for my kid, when he turns 18, he can do whatever the damn hell he wants.

I wasn't "grumpy" silly I just tended to get a tad upset over things like clouds of pot smoke billowing up the vent in my bedroom and the kid trying to tell me that their cheap doobage was incense😛

lol! i wouldn't try to smoke up at home and expect my parents to be cool with it, even though I know for a fact that at least one of my parents has done it themselves in the past - i know their attitude would still be the same. so i just don't do that here. 😛

Stop the madness!!!!

here ya go 🙂

interesting...I always wanted to be a "cool parent" but now I'm thinking that aint' such a good idea.

As far as the alcohol issue, I think its important that your kids learn how to be responsible about it early on. They're gonna do it whether you like it or not. Its best that they get educated about it by someone other than their idiot peers.

If the definition of cool is that I let my kids run wild, not enforce the rules, put up with any BS, let them leave the house looking like sterno bums, let them do whatever they want, etc, then no I am not a cool parent.
