I loved the MX700, no lag whatsoever, and the G7 is a very good successor to the Logitech wireless line. But be warned, I already had to RMA my G7 twice in 1.5 yr, first time was the receiver/charger going wonky, then second time the left button was double-clicking randomly and it took me over 90 days to get a new one back from Logitech because they were out of stock or something silly.

Best wireless I have used so far is the MX1000. A shame they dont make it anymore. They do make a bluetooth version but I feel bluetooth sucks for gaming.

I don't think the MX1000 lags per se. The problem with that mouse is it shut the laser down after a very short period of inactivity. It would then take .25 seconds or so to start back up. I never felt lag when it was kept moving. The newer gaming mice keep the laser on to prevent that problem, so they end up working better.

I have the USB RF MX1000 (I guess it's RF anyway) and the bluetooth MX1000. What you say is very true for the bluetooth version but I cannot discern any startup lag with the normal version. I've been using it for 2 years or so now and I love it. Battery lasts forever between charges, I don't think it's ever actually died on me in the middle of gaming.

As a side note, the bluetooth keyboard that is bundled with the MX1000 also has startup lag which is very annoying. The bluetooth MX1000 and the keyboard are connected to my HTPC and there is no way in hell I would use them for gaming.

I was just playing with my MX1000 and I can't discern any lag  When I first got, it most definitely lagged though. I wonder if that was due to immature drivers?

No idea, I don't use any special drivers with my normal MX1000. I just plug it in and it works.

No idea. I used my first wireless mouse for a few weeks this past summer at work. The response was great, except when it kept going to "sleep" and the initial lag to wake it up was very noticable.

My local Futureshop had a clearance sale on G5 and G7s late in the summer so I picked a G5 up for $30 (been wanting to replace my 4 year old "value" Logitech for a while). I spent about 10 minutes at the store deciding between the G5 and G7, the latter which was only $20 more expensive. However, when everything went down, I did not want to deal with the hassle of a battery and recharging it. The near 50% price difference and virtually identical design also helped.

So when it all goes down: does the wakeup lag and messing with batteries annoy you?

When I noticed wake up lag, it wasn't too bad, but you're constantly moving in UT2k4. I could see it being a problem in games where you'd have to sit still for a period, but then burst into action. I'm not getting the wake up lag with my MX1000 now though, so I can't even test it atm, I just remember that it didn't bother me at the time.

For the battery charging... I consider a charging cradle a necessity. If I had to pull batteries out and charge them, it probably wouldn't get done until they died mid game. I don't know why they designed the G7 the way they did, but I doubt I'll get one due to the battery issue. As it is now, I just park my mouse in it's cradle, and my battery has never died. I'm using 4 year old NiMH AAA cells in my MX700, and it still works fine. They won't last through a whole day of use, but I just use that as my gaming mouse, and use the MX1000 for more pedestrian activities. When new, the AAA batteries would last several days without charging, but it's easy enough to put it in the cradle when finished I usually just did that.

The G7 does not have wake up lag. And FYI Ixskllr, the G7 has 2 batteries, which is a much better design than the mx1000. Because there is really no way to run out of batteries unless you are so lazy that you can't pick the dead battery up and put it in the charger. The G7 is designed so that it can be used wirelessly 24/7 by swapping the batteries back and forth as they wear out.

The G7 also has a better body than the mx1000 and better feet. The paint doesn't rub off the body. The feet don't wear down at all and they are very large, each foot is probably 20% of the bottom of the mouse.

Even if it came with 10 batteries, you still have to take them out and charge them. The MX700, and MX1000 have a cradle that you put the whole mouse in. It doesn't get any easier than that :^)

Yea but... thats the point. You can't use a mouse in a cradle. So that means, by design, there has to be periods where you are not using the mx1000. Obviously, at face value that doesn't seem like an issue, there are going to be times when nobody is using the mouse. The problem then becomes, did you remember to put it on the cradle last night, did someone else use it, did they forget to put it on the cradle, did it make contact with the cradle or was it just sitting in it not-charging? All of these complications were solved by having more than 1 battery.

I don't see how someone can find it difficult to take a battery out and stick it in a charger 2 feet away, but it isn't any problem to put the mouse on a charger 2 feet away?

Pickup mouse, turn over, undo whatever catch is on the bottom, remove battery, insert new battery, put old battery on charge Logitech G7

Pickup mouse, place in cradle Logitech MX700

If I'm going to spend $80 on a mouse to make my life easier, I want it to be as easy as possible. The MX700 makes that happen, the G7 doesn't.

Most of the Wireless mice feel a bit heavy and don't work well for me. I prefer a lighter mouse that takes little to no effort to move.

That's one thing I like about wireless mice. I like a fair amount of weight on my mouse, and the MX1000 and MX700 feel just about perfect to me.

I need a super light mouse when I'm playing my games. I currently use a razer copperhead. While some people find it uncomfortable, I got very used to it. Furthermore, it's super light and on the Exactmat (using the smooth side) it is so easy to move around. You really don't even feel any weight at all. It's like ice.

From the sounds of it, you've never used the G7. So no, you really don't know enough to make the statement in your last line.

They lightened up the G7, go to a store that has displays out and pick one up. You may still think it is too heavy, but it is a lot lighter than previous ones.

So which part is incorrect?

Why would I want my mouse to be in a cradle? How is that better? It takes all of 2 seconds to change the battery on the G7 (I've timed myself).

Why wouldn't you? Even a very young child can see that the MX700 is easier to take care of than the G7 (2 steps as opposed to 6)

Well my opposable thumbs make the G7 very easy to use, not sure about you though. ;)

I never said it was exceedingly difficult, just harder than it should be for an $80 mouse. I've spent the last 20 years of my life dealing with rechargeable batteries on a daily basis, and having to swap out batteries is a big step backwards. I cradle the mouse when I'm finished with it, go to bed, and it's brand new by morning. Swapping out batteries is 15 years ago.

Well pardon my ignorance, but what happens if it runs out while you are playing a game?
