Are we suppose to tip Sonic's servers (the food place)?

I only tip if they are white. I delivered pizzas in highschool. Black people almost never tipped, so I just decided that if they don't tip, then they must not want tips.

Gotta be a meatball in every bunch, I guess ... WTF does race have to do with tipping?

I just assumed that it was some cultural thing that I didn't know about. I made this assumtion on the fact that so few black people tip in this part of the country. I'm just trying to show respect for their beliefs.

hey grif your right. blacks in general tip less than whites or other races. studies were done, restaurants added a grautiety for black patrons to make up for it, but i think they got sued. i think blacks don't tip well out of ignorance rather than rudeness

It's true. 9 times out of 10, I will not get a tip from a black person. But, there are some exceptions.

I always tip 2 to 3 bucks - my order never eclipses 10 bucks, but I do get good service :)

I think it's safe to assume that blacks are poorer than whites as a whole.

Nope, that's not it. I almost always get a tip from white people who live in poor areas (hell, I'll even get bags of friggen pennies from people scraping together what they have for a tip), yet the majority of the middle/upper class black people I deliver too don't tip at all. Again, there are a few exceptions, but for the most part it's true.

I went to a lunch buffet at East of Chicago Pizza once, and the waiters there expect tips for the buffet. Not sure why they deserve it honestly.

The wait staff at buffets always get screwed because people think they don't do anything. When you work a buffet, you have the displeasure of working roughly 20-30 tables at once. That means that you have to constantly take and get fresh plates for people, keep their drinks full (which, because they are up getting food a lot of times, you have to keep track of what 20 different tables had to drink.) and asking them if everything is all good... which means you have to catch the table there all at once and make sure it gets done right then.

Wait staff at buffets make the same 2 or 3 dollar and hour wage that the wait staff make at other restaurants, and people that go to buffets tend to be there 3 to 5 times longer than a normal restaurant, which means less people in more time. Less people means less tips, and then you tack on that probably 1 out of 3 tables think the wait staff doesn't deserve tips.... totally screwed.

It's no wonder why the buffet places have started adding in 20% gratuity to the cost of the meal.

Considering that we're a country where the great majority of us are in the "service sector", we are on the whole really terrible at the basics of service, which should be about hospitality and consideration for others above yourself.

I always give them a little something at Sonic, though I have mixed feelings about it.

Years ago I worked at restaurants, and have worked in some very nice ones as well as some mediocre ones. I believe I learned a decent and appropriate method from one of the good ones, even if it is practiced in very few places in our culture.

The waiters and waitresses had huge earnings potential at the place, and the management insisted that they give 10% of their tips to their bus person at the end of a shift. The smart ones would also tip the cooks and dish people now and then.

I have a lot of empathy for cooks, who certainly tend to word as hard in many cases, and often earn around the same base pay, yet without tips. On top of that, the "closing" procedures for kitchen staff can be hell compared to what others do. On the other hand, dealing directly with the public hour after hour can also take a lot out of you, so the extra bucks just go along with that territory I suppose.

Even though they don't deserve tips for so many reasons but Tv have taught me that there will be saliva in my food next time I come.
