Are we suppose to tip Sonic's servers (the food place)?

I went to sonic the other day and had 5 dollars on me. My total came out to be 3 somthing. I had an urge to give the person that brough out the food the 5 and just leave but do they really deserve it? I mean they don't have to clean up or anything like that and they don't even skate like those commercials. But still. Is there and line between tip services and non-tip services?

Ohh yeah. I got my change that day. CHEAP BASTARD.

I've never been to Sonic, but it sounds like it's sort of fast food? I dunno what I'd do.

I went to a lunch buffet at East of Chicago Pizza once, and the waiters there expect tips for the buffet. Not sure why they deserve it honestly.

I don't for one reason: They make minimum wage instead of waiter wages. (At least around here)

I'll tip them if I sit down there and eat. They usually come around and ask if everything is O.K. and whatever so I leave a little something.
The drive-thru pisses me off though.

They bring the food out to the car and I feel obligated to tip, but I don't want to. Why? Because they could have just as easily built a friggin' window on the side of the building like every other fast food place. Not sure if all Sonics lack a drive-thru window though.

Good point. I never though about that.

Ok, from now on I will consider 3 factors before I tip them.

1) How far away I parked.
2) How hot/cold it is.
3) And Ketchup/No Ketchup.

Many Sonics have drive-thru windows, which I always use when they're available.

I avoid eating at Sonic for this very reason. Not that I don't want to tip but it's so undefined that you feel uncomfortable either way.

Ok.. i'm a cook at Sonic... and i still don't see why you should tip the person bringing out the food... get out of you car, go inside... and tip the damn cook who cooked your burger....

as for carhops... they do clean and stuff... before they leave though... while they are working they have to prepare the bags your food comes in... you know... putting napkins, ketchup, and salt in them.... and bring out your food, most don't make drinks, take orders, etc....

and most sonics do have tables for you to sit at.... but mostly you sit in your car... so next time you feel you should tip the carhop... go inside and tip the cook....

cliff notes:

don't tip carhops, they just bring your food to you
tip the cook inside...

or.....not....

I only tip if they are white. I delivered pizzas in highschool. Black people almost never tipped, so I just decided that if they don't tip, then they must not want tips.

Whether you tip or not should depend on how much they get paid. Why doesn't the cook tell us how much they are paid and whether they expect tips?

Wow.. just.. wow

they are paid minimum because they still have to clean and what not...

and they don't expect tips... but they do hope for them.... which is bs...

Gotta be a meatball in every bunch, I guess ... WTF does race have to do with tipping?
