Are we really this stupid?

Just opened up a package of Private Selection (Kroger "Premium" Brand) Sliced Honey Smoked Turkey Breast. On the back side of the container top reads:

Sandwich Ingredients:
Makes 1 Sandwich
2 slices whole wheat bread
5 or 6 slice Private Selection honey turkey
2 slices Private Selection pepperjack cheese
2 slices tomato
1 lettuce leaf
2 TBSP Private Selection sweet and hot mustard

Method:
1. Place the Turkey (yes, the capitalized it) on one of the slices of bread, and then spread one tablespoon of mustard on the Turkey.
2. Add the cheese, tomato, and lettuce.
3. Spread the rest of the mustard and place on the top piece of bread (no period, this time...hmmm...)

Okay, I'm all for neat recipes on food packages, including interesting twists on favorite staples, but have we become so dumb that we need to be told how to make a basic sandwich, including where to place the second piece of bread?

I'm more interested in why they think you should put the mustard on the turkey and not the first piece of bread like a civilized person:colbert:

Depends on how much you like a particular mustard. Spreading it on the turkey, will allow you to use substantially less while ensuring you get mustard in every bite. As many breads will soak up the mustard more, resulting in the use of a larger quantity of mustard.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way... that's the alternative inefficient method which we really don't use often. Usually you just send your woman to the kitchen to make it which is the correct way to do it.

edit: If you are woman then yes, you are that stupid and yes you must be told. The sammich isn't going to make itself.

Check out the directions to make a pop-tart

Due to possible risk of fire, never leave your toasting appliance or microwave unattended.

No Refrigeration Needed

POP-TARTS TOASTING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Remove pastry from pouch.
2. Warm pastry in toasting appliance at lowest or lightest heat setting for one heating cycle only.
3. Cool briefly before carefully removing pastry from toasting appliance.

POP-TARTS MICROWAVE INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Remove pastry from pouch. Place pastry on a microwave-safe plate.
2. Microwave on high for 3 seconds.
3. Cool briefly before handling.

If pastry is overheated, frosting/filling can become extremely hot and could cause burns.

I don't like making fancy sandwiches, it's too complicated. That's why I usually just eat out or if I make my own, I make a nut spread sandwich.

Yes. Especially younger folks. If it doesn't come out of a package or go in the microwave they don't know what to do with it. Two young girls at work are like that, every day it's lunchables or lean cuisine/hot pocket. And they wonder why they aren't married yet.

They at least got the meat -> cheese -> tomato -> lettuce layout right. That's the best one. I particularly dislike any layout where the tomato's touching the bun/bread.

They didn't tell you what side to place the mustard on so now I am eating a sandwich with mustard all over the wrong side. 🙁
