Probably because he's smart. He realizes that good diplomacy involves both a carrot and a stick, unlike his predecessor. You don't realize how lucky you are that there's finally an adult in the White House. The sad part is that all you'll do to thank him is post more stupid comments attacking him on the internet.

IIRC, South Korea spends more overall in actual dollars on their military, but a tiny fraction of GDP because their economy is not in shambles like NK's is.

NK also has a false town that they built across the border with SK so that they'd look more lively than they really are and has, or at least had, the highest flag staff in the world, because as we all know if you can have your flag higher than everyone else you are better than they are.

There were some scattered reports during their huge famine they had recently of people eating their children but I couldn't find enough on it to say it surely happened.

NK is a view into an alternate world. If you can find it, there is a website by a guy who went to NK. He took many pictures and discussed his many encounters with people. Everything is controlled and I mean everything. But the most interesting thing was there were more than a few adults who seemed to know the current system is a sham but not want to rock the boat. They asked many questions about how the rest of the world is doing.
But also many brainwashed who really believed NK was the most superior nation on the planet.

Interesting video if you have an hour.

Watch that video. I am now questioning whether it is better for the people to remain oppressed. Rather than have the govt implode and they are exposed to the harsh reality of their own oppression. That video is like Nazi Germany on steroids. The population may lose their minds once they realize their god was no god at all and their nation a dump.

The little bubble that the niave Southern right, and the hippy dove left have been living in can evaporate very quickly when 10,000 US Soldiers become casualties from NK arty.
I believe the US soldiers are no where near where the artillery can hit them.

Our troops are to the far south.

The people of Seoul will take an absolute pounding though, all out war could result in 100,000 dead South Koreans within a few days if not hours depending on how well the North artillery does.

Of course the second the artillery starts falling our B-52s etc are in the air on the way to carpet bomb the area big time. But it would be at least 12 hours before they could be on station and doing anything worth while.

The real BIG question is whether you use battle field nukes or not. If North Korean artillery starts to kill thousands and thousands of civilians in Seoul would we risk using some small nukes to end the artillery and thus saves perhaps 100,000+ lives?

That is the kind of decision that will haunt the people in charge for the rest of their lives.

Let's hope we don't get to that point.

"North Korea has 2 artillery corps and 30 artillery brigades equipped with 120mm self-propelled guns, 152mm self-propelled mortars, 170mm guns with a range of 50 km, 240 mm multiple rocket launchers with a range of 45 km, and other heavy guns. North Korea has about 18,000 heavy guns. North Korea's 170mm Goksan gun and 240mm multiple-tube rocket launchers are the most powerful guns of the world. These guns can lob shells as far south as Suwon miles beyond Seoul. The big guns are hidden in caves. Many of them are mounted on rails and can fire in all directions. They can rain 500,000 conventional and biochemical shells per hour on US troops near the DMZ. The US army bases at Yijong-bu, Paju, Yon-chun, Munsan, Ding-gu-chun, and Pochun will be obliterated in a matter of hours. "

N Korea Military Tactics

The 152mm guns and below would have to be moved closer to the border to be effective and would be easy targets for pretty much anything. The 170mm guns and 240mm BM-24s are the primary concern.

I'm guessing the general counter artillery plan is to throw as many sub-munitions using MLRS, cruise missiles, and aircraft onto the artillery sites as humanly possible. It's unlikely NK could sustain that high rate of fire.

Colin Powel tells a good story about a Soviet General he had a lot of dealings with towards the end of the cold war. And then talking to him after communism had been thrown overboard.

The general was very depressed. Talked about how you spend your entire life defending something only to be told that it was wrong or didn't work. The guy ended up killing himself.

I can imagine a lot of people coming out of the north will be in for a total mind fuck if their country collapses and then joins with the south ala East and West Germany.

Well Modelworks, it is fairly moronic to suggest that we would invade NK. To do so would kill hundreds of thousands in Seoul which is 35 miles from the border. Invading NK would most likely drag Red China into the combat (again)-against us, rather than tacitly supporting us as they do now. And the US has absolutlely nothing to gain from invading NK (even if we didn't already have Iran, Iraq and Pakistan on our plate).

The possibility of invading NK exists only in the fevered brain of NK's leader. If you think differently, perhaps you could explain why.

It is a fascinating subject. When Yeltsin was in the communist party in the late 80s they(him and other communist members) visited San Francisco and thought it was a show put on by the United States govt that so many cars were on the road. They were assured traffic jams like the one they were stuck in were common in the United States cities. The shielding goes very high up. And it had to be shocking to him and his entourage that common people in the United States drove cars at such a rate compared to his own country.

N Korea Military Tactics

It truly pains me but your FEAR (like yur good buddy OCGuy with "OMG! 10K DEAD US Soldiers!) is fulla sheet.

And 'Who dah Fuk is Han Ho Suk?'

Seoul, Korea, at its closest point to the DMZ is at the very limit of the overwhelming majority of NK artillery. And if you knew anything about Korea (which clearly you don't) you would understand the only reason it is that close is that the DMZ makes a 10 mile 'dip' to the southeast toward Seoul in that area.

Furthermore, it's ridiculous to think that at the first sign of any mobilization that the ROK?s alert status would rise to meet the challenge backed by the full force and effect of the US armed forces.

The ROK is prep'ed to respond in seconds to saturate NK artillery placements - ROK systems located well beyond the reach of any NK artillery. In the last decade the ROK has deployed guided missile systems capable of reaching Pyongyang and every major North Korean city.

Any once again demonstrating that you and OCGuy clearly have no clue the ONLY senario that seriously worries the ROK and US is the modern version of MAD - a determination by NK to launch a 'suicide' attack into the south.

And while Kimg Jung Ill is a nut, he ain't that big of a nut.

Interwebs is hella slow here. If it's the vid with people changing for Kim and then some blind guy praising him and then it shows IV bottles made out of beer bottles, then it is a "fun" vid. I've seen one with a guy who snuck a camera into a train, too, and showed people at a train yard chasing after spilled grain.

I think they should be illuminated, though. The first gen would hate it, but that many people should not live like that. It is subhuman and if it were at all possible to illuminate them, it should be done.

We should just carve North Korea in half - give northmost to China, give southmost to South Korea, rename it New Korea.

Would NK ever attack Philippines since we have a base there?

How come we never hear you guys bitching about Techs and Phokus??

1. They arent as stupid.
2. They generally post facts and opinions and reasons, where FNE doesn't - he is just a douche.

Even contrasting him to you... You generally post links, ideas, reasons, etc. that are on topic. I don't usually agree with you, but at least you have intelligent thoughts and valid reasons behind your opinions. FNE just posts attacks on the left or Obama that are usually off topic, and have no credibility whatsoever.

You= conservative
FNE= tin foil hat wearing nutjob who thinks Obama is actually the Antichrist.

I am sure you can see the difference.

You= conservative
FNE= tin foil hat wearing nutjob who thinks Obama is actually the Antichrist.

I am sure you can see the difference.

Yes Jokus's kill all republicans because they are genetically inferior wreaks of rational thought. But who knows, 70 years ago killing people because of percieved genetic defects was called nazism. Today it is called bringing thoughts and opinion with reason.

Why anybody defends trolls on an internet msgboard is beyond me. Why do you feel the need to defend techs or jokus?

Hussein needs to give another one of his once in a lifetime speeches.
