This is all bad news.

The little bubble that the niave Southern right, and the hippy dove left have been living in can evaporate very quickly when 10,000 US Soldiers become casualties from NK arty.

The scuttle butt I have been told is that we are furiously massing forces in the Philipines ready to deploy for Korea on a moments notice.

One of my sisters sons is on an aircraft carrier (sorry can`t disclose which one)located somewhere in proximity to the South China sea and he tell me they are furiously gearing up for something big......

Yet I can`t find anything online about this....

No, we're not going to war with North Korea. I'm guessing your sister's son is either on the Stennis or the George Washington, either way it's not a super secret. I would imagine the Reagan (which left NAS North Island today) is probably headed that way as well.

We're not gearing up for anything big, we're just sending ships over there to remind North Korea of its situation. They do this about once a year, and it's best ignored.

If there is going to be a war with NK, is there some reason why it wouldn't be better to go ahead and have it? Granted out military isn't in the best of shape now, but the more time NK has to develop and produce weapons the worse it's going to be. I think we need to go ahead and fight this war, Kim Jong is going to do more than sabre rattle when he has nukes to drop and one foot in the grave anyway.

I believe the US soldiers are no where near where the artillery can hit them.

Our troops are to the far south.

The people of Seoul will take an absolute pounding though, all out war could result in 100,000 dead South Koreans within a few days if not hours depending on how well the North artillery does.

Of course the second the artillery starts falling our B-52s etc are in the air on the way to carpet bomb the area big time. But it would be at least 12 hours before they could be on station and doing anything worth while.

The real BIG question is whether you use battle field nukes or not. If North Korean artillery starts to kill thousands and thousands of civilians in Seoul would we risk using some small nukes to end the artillery and thus saves perhaps 100,000+ lives?

That is the kind of decision that will haunt the people in charge for the rest of their lives.

Let's hope we don't get to that point.

I would think a war at this stage would be fairly short.

-north korea surprise attack wipes Seol off the map
-US responds by turning north korea into a parking lot

Whats with Obama and his cowboy diplomacy? Why doesn't he sit down and talk with the North Koreans and resolve this like rational human beings? Perhaps he could offer up some free copies of his memoirs.

Oh please.

I spent seven years in the Navy, five of them handling top secret communications, deployment orders, encryption, tomahawk targeting data, etc. I know what's a secret and what isn't. Anyone who thinks that the general location of those carrier battle groups is a secret to any foreign government that wishes to find out is retarded. So thanks for the advice, but no thanks.

Furthermore I have no idea if it's the Stennis or the GW out there, I merely guessed it because the Nimitz is being refit, the Lincoln just got back in October, and the Reagan just left port today. None of this is a secret, unless you think the enemy is unable to read the San Diego Union-Tribune's front page. End of story.

Probably because he's smart. He realizes that good diplomacy involves both a carrot and a stick, unlike his predecessor. You don't realize how lucky you are that there's finally an adult in the White House. The sad part is that all you'll do to thank him is post more stupid comments attacking him on the internet.

NK doesn't want a war but attention from U.S so that they can reach certain level of diplomacy with U.S.
Here's what I think:
N.K gives up this hot spot nuke. plant. along with missle plans.
In return, U.S ties a knot with N.K.
Win-Win solution for N.K and U.S; bad news for China and South Korea.

Going to war with anyone would be foolish. America is far too weak minded to win a conflict with any nation. We no longer possess the will to fight. We only wish to have the moral high ground, even at the expense of victory. This is not the way to fight a nation such as North Korea. Everyone knows this.

Do you ever actually add any substance to the conversation?

Fear No Evil - Trolling with irrelevant comments since 2008!

Do you ever post something of value, or do you only troll post? I mean, here we are talking about Korea, and you pop in solely to post a nonsensical post about Obama and his memoirs.

Not unless Kim has a death with or is so old/mentally gone that he thinks he can win the engagement. Not terribly likely but stranger things have definitely happened.

If the Navy sortied a 3rd carrier toward Korea I'd say that the government isn't taking any chances.

We have no staging ports in the Philippines.

On the other hand, having a couple of carriers in the China Sea off of Korea is a show the flag situation, but that is all that would happen.

NK has declared the Armistice void previously and nothing happens.

Everyone is going to puff and preen around and when the public is happy, let everything standdown.

Interesting tidbit on North Korea, last I checked they spend about 30% of GDP on military (US is something like 5% give or take, which is among the highest of G7 if not the highest), which trumps the hell out of any other nation. IIRC, South Korea spends more overall in actual dollars on their military, but a tiny fraction of GDP because their economy is not in shambles like NK's is.

NK also has a false town that they built across the border with SK so that they'd look more lively than they really are and has, or at least had, the highest flag staff in the world, because as we all know if you can have your flag higher than everyone else you are better than they are.

There were some scattered reports during their huge famine they had recently of people eating their children but I couldn't find enough on it to say it surely happened.

NK is a view into an alternate world. If you can find it, there is a website by a guy who went to NK. He took many pictures and discussed his many encounters with people. Everything is controlled and I mean everything. But the most interesting thing was there were more than a few adults who seemed to know the current system is a sham but not want to rock the boat. They asked many questions about how the rest of the world is doing.
But also many brainwashed who really believed NK was the most superior nation on the planet.

Interesting video if you have an hour.

Guam is more probable given it's location and infrastructure.

2 or 3 CGs parked off your coast is more of a show the gun situation.

Thanks for not disappointing. Keep up the good work. Someday they will sing songs about your legendary douchbaggetry.

"North Korea has 2 artillery corps and 30 artillery brigades equipped with 120mm self-propelled guns, 152mm self-propelled mortars, 170mm guns with a range of 50 km, 240 mm multiple rocket launchers with a range of 45 km, and other heavy guns. North Korea has about 18,000 heavy guns. North Korea's 170mm Goksan gun and 240mm multiple-tube rocket launchers are the most powerful guns of the world. These guns can lob shells as far south as Suwon miles beyond Seoul. The big guns are hidden in caves. Many of them are mounted on rails and can fire in all directions. They can rain 500,000 conventional and biochemical shells per hour on US troops near the DMZ. The US army bases at Yijong-bu, Paju, Yon-chun, Munsan, Ding-gu-chun, and Pochun will be obliterated in a matter of hours. "
