Are we ever gonna get another space sim?

I so wish for another Homeworld game, with so much apprehension too as they would most likely screw it up. I think I'm going to go hug my Homeworld cds now.

In the meantime (by meantime, most likely next freaking decade...) I'm looking forward to X4 Rebirth. Thye are supposed to redo it from the ground up and fix that damned UI. I hated the Ui in it soooo clunky.

I'd love to have a Privateer or Wing Commander space opera even though they weren't exactly space sims. Freespace 2 was golden though and I'd just settle for a FS3 if that all I could get.

I know that a lot of Homeworld fans liked Sins of a Solar Empire. You might want to check out the upcoming stand-alone expansion, Rebellion, later this year (or see if you can find a good sale on the Trinity collection).

Another interesting option is on the horizon. Last night I downloaded Starpoint Gemini 2 alpha version from Steam early access. For a game that is still very uncomplete, this thing seems brilliant! To me it looks like a hybrid of Freelancer and X. Very very nice. And for 18.99 you get alpha SPG2 together with full SPG1 game

StarDrive is fun. Didn't played much and never really was into "4x" space sims but this one has a little something cool about it.

Freespace 3 for the win!

I miss this genre badly. I think the last time I got to dogfighting in recent history was that one small mission in HALO Reach. Not nearly enough!

Oh, and the option to pilot the occasional capital ship sounds like it could be fun.

I'd love another 4X Space sim in the vein of MoO 2 or GalCiv2. Something with depth and strategy. Turn based is absolutely right up my alley so that I can plan and strategize every single move.

I think that everyone today (developers) thinks that turn based is dead. Shame really.

what I wouldn't give for a freespace 3. I would pay $500 for that, no joke.

need a new tie fighter!

That's actually a very good idea. And with Disney and the resurgence of Star Wars 7, I could absolutely see a market for that.

I remember the original. I got my first joy-stick for the computer because of X-Wing. My personal favorite was the A-Wing missions. You could soup that baby up and wiz past all of the other ships. Flip the shields to double front and jack up the engines. ZOOOOM! it was awesome.

If it happens, with Disney in charge of Lucas Arts, it will be console-focused for sure.

Be careful what you wish for. 😉

I was hoping to provide a link to some obvious kickstarter campaign and request you to put your money where your post is, but this is the best I could find. 😀

Yes, Interplay, the company who’s only slightly more existent than THQ at this point. The publisher sealed the deal with a cool-as-an-airless-vacuum sum of $7500, which is a disturbingly small amount of my total yearly rent. If I moved someplace else, I could own Freespace. Right now. I will carry this regret to my deathbed.

Holy balls! They could have raised more capital than that selling the IP to fans on Kickstarter.
