Catching bin Laden isn't really a big deal; he's hanging around in Pakistan. All that has to be done is to squeeze the g**ads of Musharaff (the Pakistani military dictator) hard enough and he will cough up bin Laden.
It is said that every country has an army but only the Pakistani army has a country. An ant cannot breathe there without the army's knowledge so it's a huge stretch of the imagination to think that they don't know where bin Laden is. The Pakistani military is basically playing coy with the U.S. in the hopes of wringing more goodies like the F-16s they have been promised recently.
Either read the riot act to Pakistan or ask Musharaff the price for bin Laden's head and pay it and he will be brought to book.
How completely inaccurate. While the intelligence branch of the Pakistani army is very, very good - they don't know everything. That's sort of hard to do in a country of
~160 million people, much of it in non-urban settlements. Considering bin Laden is not exactly a big fan of President Musharaff's, I sort of doubt he's letting the man have the run of Pakistan on his watch on purpose.
Musharraf is not a fan of Osama Bin Laden? How so? Just like he is not a [public] fan anymore of the Taliban - which was founded in Pakistan?
Oh yeah, I guess when you have a superpower on your a55 you can't very well make it public who you to like. Really more of an opportunist than anything.
The fact is, we waited over 3 weeks to really start looking for where he was, in the Tora Bora area. 3 weeks is a long time, even by mule standards.
There is ABSOLUTELY no way we can trust Musharraf or the Pakistani leadership. AQ Khan has proven links with Islamist extremist organizations. He was put under 'house' arrest in his mansion in Pakistan. HOUSE ARREST? Question: Why has he not been tried? Answer: Political sensitivities and the possible expose of other things sour in Pakistan. He is Musharrafs man, and Musharraf himself has strong ties with the ISI, or Pakistan intelligence as you rate very highly. The ISI has known ties with Islamic terrorist organizations on the U.S. black list, including Jaish E Mohammed and Laskhar Toiba.
In all probability, Osama is no longer in Pakistan, but was at some point in time. Perhaps it was too politically sensitive to catch him, or perhaps we need him around. Regarding the posters who say it is hard work, well, thats hard work that we should have focused on more.
We are the strongest nation in the world, with tremendous intelligence and technology at our disposal. Of course we can find him, if we really wanted to. The question is why do we not want to? The mere fact that we can but don't is proof that politics, esp. under this leadership is really dirty business.
