You bring up an interesting point. If Nvidia had so much revenue dependent on the mining boom as we all accept, why in the world did they not know about the now happening POS event. They seem, from the outside to be caught almost by surprise. Not even a single employee tasked with properly monitoring a billion $ market?

Because mining altcoins at pre-May price levels would still be very profitable. POS isn't what ended the miners buying spree. It was the crypto crash.

Who would have thought we would be in recession now after only 18 months of ***** The whole world is shaken up, stock market, auto market, chip market, and no good news ahead. We may see that fire sale sooner than later.
Its the internet after all, you might need your /s.

Of course Nvidia will cut prices again in September. They hope to hook the last remaining fools blind to the incoming GOD WAVE of used GPUs after POS, not to mention the 4000 series getting closer and closer. They either reduce prices and get what they can now or they get nothing. I know I wouldn't buy a "price reduced" 3080 for $600 (lol) when I could get one on ebay for HALF that price. They'd have to sell new 3080's for under $500 at this point. The 3080 should have been $600 from the start and the Ti model should have been $700. 10GB of vram is stinky noob grease.

With the electricity price atm, you still have to take into account that if next gen RDNA3 is +50% performance/watt then buying current gen will cost you on the electric bill.

Indeed. If you use just a single KWh a day gaming, that is already 180-250DKK a month with these insane prices. Fortunately we have a bit of wind and sun today, so spot prices are pretty low today, but still peaking at 6.29DKK ($0.84) by 1900. That's without taxes and VAT, and this is on a good day.

In the summer I use 2000+ KWH with air conditioning. 30KWH more isnt going to throw a rod.

I wish I could joke with this. It really isn't funny. Electricity has risen from 0.5DKK per KWh to well above 7DKK during peak. 10DKK isn't unrealistic this winter. If you got a bill for a thousand DKK a month, you now get a bill for ten thousand DKK per month. When an average salary is 15-20.000 a month after taxes, I'll leave you to do the math.

A lot of people are unable to pay this.

That's a serious govt failure. How are the elected officials still in office?

Don't ask. I didn't vote for them. Their answer is that it's perfectly reasonable prices, as it encourages saving and "going green". "Just use less electricity". </deity> help you if you have a gas boiler this winter. It can end up costing you 100.000DKK+ (~US$ 13.400+).

Further, we do not get government subsidies unlike Norway and Sweden. So there are only consumers to foot the bill.

And these hypocritical officials don't suffer because I bet the taxpayers are paying for their electricity bills

You can never have good "rulers" if they don't live the same as their "subjects" and know what normal life looks like and what problems people face in their daily lives. Seriously, the lifestyle of these people makes me sick to my stomach. So much extravagance.

Our household is ~3000kwh/year
In SW Oklahoma we averaged 105 degrees for the past 60 days and had highs of 114. We have been cooler the past week or so in the upper 80s- upper 90s. My home is almost 70 years old and 1500 sqft

Also, starting to see "Lot of 50 GPUs" showing up on eBay as well.

Getting aggressive with my "make offer" prices, my blurb goes a little like "Proof of Stake is hitting Mid-September, New cards will be announced soon, new card prices keep dropping. Let me know if you'd like to move this card for a fair price"

~$275 for 6700xt/3070 class performance

~$325 for 6800/3080 class performance

~$375 for top of class 6900xt/3090 performance.
I can wait, the sellers cannot.

I have absolutely no idea what any these measurements mean, to me it sounds like you are about to get cooked in your private castle. ;) (obviously I could just convert to metric)
I live in a 200sqm house from 1978, with distributed heating, and the temperature is typically from -5 to 25C during the year.

So you dont even have air conditioning. So you dont even need to be concerned with power draw from your video card. You can just use IT for a heater in winter.

Officials in Denmark have to pay just like every one else, but sure they have a high salary which many have, and can afford it. But as always it is those who have least who suffer most in crisis.
