are tobacco farmers as bad as the companies?

IMHO, I dont think so, farmers have nothing to do with marketing, they are just providing the product, same as a tomato farmer, or anything else. I dont think any farmers are trying to get kids to start smoking, there business is secure. While they do provide the poison, they dont sell it.

Of course not. I grew up in an area where tobacco farming was a sole means of income for many families. And, of course, I don't think there's any blame on the tobacco industry either...the farmers aren't shoving cigarettes into people's mouths any more than the companies are.

you know what? this really angers me this whole situation..
i mean hello? you are inhaling toxins what did you think was going to happen the toxins in your blood/lung will make you live longer?
all those ppl who sued the tobacco companies are gold diggers.
maybe i should sue the sambuca company cuz after consuming mass amts of their product i got really really sick.

*kat. <-- works for her money.

<<what about farmers that produce opium and other such drugs? >>

They don't bother me either. They are simply producing a product that the marketplace demands. So long as there is demand, there will be supply.

Furthermore, most of the farmers that produce Coca or Opium etc live in very poor area's where it might be the only means for providing for their family. Why should I blame that poor little farmer in Colombia for producing Coca when we, the stupid consumers in the west are the ones demanding it?

<< what about farmers that produce opium and other such drugs? >>

Opium also has medicinal purposes....it's not just an abused substance. Same thing can be said about marijuana and cocaine. It becomes a problem when people start cultivating it for illegal gain.

They are growing death and heartache..

Well, as long as it's legal, it can't be bad. Kinda like abortion, eh? 😉

Not as bad because, unlike the companies all they do is grow the product. The tobacco companies hid truths and marketed cigaraettes as safe when they knew otherwise. Farmers would have been taken in as much as anyone (except maybe some huge scale farmers.).

Although i think the growing of tobacco is bad, most of the farmers probably can't afford to do anything else.

<< They are growing death and heartache >>

And all this time I thought people were responsible for their own actions and were choosing death and heartache.

Its money to them.
Just like people who grow hopps, that makes beer, that gets people drunk and makes them crash cars.
The cigarette companies that ADDED stuff to tobacco are evOl.
The marketing is not wholesome. ( not how I can see how any media is "wholesome" )

And people that grow illegal substances are well, making money or supporting a habit. I think its a better alternative then doing more violent crimes to obtain money for a fix.
Its illegal because some law makers decades ago decided it was not profitable for it to be legal and not a classified narcotic.
But, isnt the govt ALWAYS trustworthy? HEH right.

to live and survive, they gotta do what they gotta do..

I see your point of where to draw the line of right and wrong.

tobacco company = bad, but imo those poor farmer have no choice.
what they gonna do if they have no i love you to grow no more?
