some manufacturers are generous with their ratings:p i think u can get the true measure by looking at its lummens rating:p either way, better to go with a bunch of small lights u can either hang or place in little fixtures around the room, on desks etc. diffused light.

well i havn't checked on panasonic or ge recently, i do know ikea bulbs go for a s little as 3 bux. i have 5 7watts on in this room right now. they also have the lamps for as low as 10 bux for a see through glass thing. or a hanging glass thing.

Do you think there might be something wrong with your master bathroom?
I got mine in there for over a year and it's been fine.

I have my whole bulbs in my apt switch to these white bulbs.
Got it while they were on clearance at Staples awhile ago.
I also replace my 17" and 19" CRT with 2 15" LCD.
My monthly electric bill seems to go down a bit, around $1 - $2 reduction.
So far none of them have died yet and it has been at least half a year now.
If you can live with white light then I think it is worth it, in the long run it will save you some money.
Every little bit helps.

Good to know. I only wish I got the ~150w bulb, instead of the ~100w bulb since I thought that was the max my cheapo floor lamp could hold. Oh well, it's pretty bright but I just like my places almost blinding bright white. :)

I convinced my dad to switch to them a few months ago. So far he is very happy with them. I have been using one since the beginning of the year (a very old Sylvannia 18W) and it is still going strong. They're great at our house because we frequently have high voltage problems which cause incandescent bulbs to blow out in a few weeks.

I've considered switching because my room is ALWAYS too hot. The people who like it warm have the coolest room in the house while I (who likes it cold) has the hottest by far. Two computers that are usually on, and 3 monitors that are on for about half the day generate enough heat that people blame those for the heat. But when you add up 3 60W bulbs in the cieling it's more than the 3 monitors combined and the Evil Day Star shines directly through my window the ENTIRE time it's up. I figure if I can drop about 150W of heat during the evening it wouldn't hurt.

I look for the (hot deal) sales. I changed all my home's incandescant lights over to CFLs averaging $2.50 a bulb (13-15w average replacing 60-75w).

Just that change alone was enough to drop my energy usage 20% and qualify for my (S.Cal) utilities' extra rebate program.

I like them. I'm currently using GE brand bulbs. The latest spiral style is the most compact style yet. They generally fit inside glass-enclosed ceiling fixtures that could previously only fit incandescent bulbs.

The cheap Lights-of-America brand bulbs don't seem to last. I watched in horror as one of them failed suddenly while belching a disturbing volume of thick smoke from the ballast several seconds after I turned the power on.

if you have dimmable light sockets, dont put these lights in em, unless you buy the ones that are specific for dimmer switches.

otherwise they go kaput!

all 15 or so of the lightbulbs in our house (cept for the dimmable ones) are now floursecent

I've had my sprial flourescent bulb going on two years now. We used it in a lamp that constantly blew out bulbs and got fed up, bought one, and haven't had a problem since.
