Are those people that look like bums that sell newspaper legit?

Nitemare

Always thought they emptied out newspaper stands for a quarter and then sold them for full price or more. Saw one the other day that had on an orange safety vest with the newspapers name on it.

He probably stole the vest from Caltrans (or the local road crews) and then went down to the "spray paint street artists" and had him paint the name on.

Around here they are usually legit I think because I see them with newspaper stacks still bundled in the plastic. So they couldn't have gotten them from newspaper machines.

Just funny how the newspaper can let these people represent them...if this was the case

Who buys newspapers anymore with the internet around?

I buy them soemtimes. Like if i'm out like at lunch or waiting for someone/something if i'm out and around on the job.

Haha, yeah a lot of them are legit, though I'm not sure about those selling fruit. The fruit peddlers also have vests, so I'm not sure. I used to see them all the time when I used to work in DC.

I see bundles laying around with the plastic still on them. Especially early in the morning. It wouldn't be hard to just steal a couple of those.

I get the Times free from the university, so I read it every day.

Would I pay for it? Almost certainly not. Do I enjoy reading it? Absolutely.

--Oh, the New York Times

Most of the ones here are. I always grab an AM New York from one of the people when I get on the subway in the morning. It's free though.

People complain because the homeless do not have jobs and beg them for money. Now people complain when these people try to make a living...

Because at least around where I see these "paperboys", they're always standing in the middle of the street or between lanes at a light making fvcking nuisances of themselves. I wouldn't feel bad at all if I clipped one of them as I was driving past. Stay out of the fvcking street and peddle your ill-gotten goods from the sidewalk.

they are trying to make a quarter. so what....its better than them begging for quarters.

i think the newspaper companies give it to them for free or very low prices, as long as they count how many they can sell each day. it boosts up the readership numbers for the newspapers.

for instance, we get "Express" for free when going on the subway. there are always these random people handing them out. i feel sorry for them, because their sole job is to hand out free newspapers. (a newspaper receptacle does the same thing!) "Express" is free because the newspaper company only cares about the number of issues they can hand out, so when they ask for money from advertisers they can say we distribute X amount of newspapers each day.

I always see people trying to sell "real change".

that's legit... real change basically sells the newspapers to them at a very cheap price and the bums keep the profit. some of them do very well and are able to afford apartments.

Hopefully you do not live in CT or NY...
