Are those "new" Domino's pizzas any good?

I think they are a step in the right direction as they are better, especially when requested that they be cooked well done.
 
I didn't consider the price difference of chains vs. local.

The best pizza near us is a local place. A medium with two toppings is around $12. I can find cheaper but nothing as good, and really, I don't want to eat crappy pizza just to save a couple bucks.
 
We tried it recently and liked it alot. The sauce is quite spicy (too much for our little ones, that complained it was too hot). The crust was treated with butter garlic so that it tasted like breadsticks you would purchase seperately. I actually enjoyed eating the whole crust, unlike some where you would just leave the crust on your plate.
To me, most of the taste of a pizza is in the sauce, so I like it when there is a lot of sauce on the pizza. I was lucky that our local location used lots on oour pie, but this could be affected by your local "chef".
 
better? definitely.
Good? not really.

I find the quality and quantity of the toppings has improved far more than the crust or sauce, especially the bacon and spinach.
 
I can just see them in the board room discussing this new strategy.

"Ladies and Gentlement I know we have forged our success over the years through pushing out to market the shittiest pizza imaginable. Get ready for a game change folks, I propose we change our pizza and make it taste good! "

What's weird is that I've tried fast food pizza in Kansas City, Pizza Hut, Papa John's, etc. And I've tried the same places down here in Houston. It seems that the pizza is much better tasting in KC using the same recipe. Why is that? Some other restaurants too.
 
$5.99 for a medium 2 topping is pretty good, but of course, Dominoes Pizza is definitely no substitute for authentic pizza.
 
GumpyMan, dude! I'm in Houston now, too, and I SWEAR I've noticed the same thing. The only chain pizza that I really like here is Papa John's. But most other restaurants just don't taste as good as up north in Dallas where I grew up, pizza or otherwise.

Really? the places local to me are 1 of 2 thing. CRAZY overpriced, like $25 for a large, or super cheap and don't even use real cheese. Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust > * And yes I've had some of the good local places. Sorry, but I'm not going to pay $25 for a large pizza, it's NEVER that much better. I can get 2 1/2 pizzas from Pizza Hut for the same price.

In the 2 metro's I've resides:

SE MI (Ann Arbor - Univ of Mich territory - also West of Detroit in the burbs) and

South FL (Broward)

Mom and pops rule hardcore. You can usually get a large (and a large pizza btw is at least 16", sometimes 18 and 24" can be had). cheese pie from between $12 and $18 delivered. Toppings usually run a buck or two and there have always been specials.

$12 for an excellent cheese pie with a great strong fluffy bread tasting crust that doesn't fall apart, fresh tomato (well Canned Roma's at the worst) sauce that isn't ketchup, and real Grande cheese, is a damn fine sight by me.

I've never considered that folks really couldn't get this. Usually overpriced shops around here go out of business quick, or REALLY are that good. Like the gourmet place that does baked potato pizza. OMG.....


Now when I lived outside Chicago, thats a different story. I won't get into that debate. I love me a stuffed pie (or deep dish) but boy are they expensive. New york style is hard to get there outside the chains.
 
im an oddball. i have a couple local places i prefer, but they are generally too expensive to go to unless its just me and the kids. if im feeding them, their friends and some of my friends as well ill get pizza hut. papa johns tastes too sweet for me, and i hate their crust. my fave is the new york thin with pepperoni at peter piper, which is astounding to me.

the new dominos was at least finishable, decent pizza imo. but i had the thin, since i hate bread crust.

if you think that manufactured re-warmed hellhole that is the dallas restaurant scene is better than houston you need to slice off your tongue and donate it to science because you sure aren't using it.
 
Anything has to be an improvement over the old one, but haven't tried it yet. The Mom and Pops are cheaper and so much better that the chain ones.

I live in a city with close to 150k people in it and I can get two large Domino's pizza's for $11.95. I have trouble getting even a Medium from a Mom & Pop for that price.

If I want something cheap and greasy to wash a beer down with while watching football I'm going with cheap thankyouverymuch.

better than the old stuff, but i wouldn't get it again.

too greasy, too garlic'y. also burped and farted a lot afterwards for some reason.

back to the local joints.

and for that price i'd rather have digiorno or freschetta.


14" is not a large pizza.


and that slather of trans-fat they apply to the crust is gross.
 
Maybe somebody has already said this, but you can request they hold the garlic crust if you don't like it. As with any special order, it's not 100% that you'll actually get it.

For the local vs chain argument....you people have to understand that this is HEAVILY based on location. When I lived in Philly, I never ordered from a chain, ever. The local pizza places were both better AND cheaper than the chains, it was awesome. Now that I live in the Seattle area, I go exclusively to the chains, because the local pizza is terrible & ridiculously overpriced.

This is ATOT. Anything that has a commercial can't be good.
